As the days pass, I'm beginning to think this was typical social media trying to be the first to report a breaking story. It just doesn't make sense why we would wait to hire Ryan when we could have at anytime. Unless he was always our first choice (I doubt) and we assumed the Rams had him locked up so we didn't pursue him.

1. If he was our guy, why interview others? Should be a quick interview and hire.

2. What if we are interested in Ryan as a position coach? Based on his past history, he hasn't really earned himself another DC job.

3. Based on Payton saying they would take their time to find the right candidate, I just can't see Ryan being that right fit. But then again we aren't privy to what everyone knows and talks about in the NFL.

4. Or simply, maybe after all the interviews are done, Ryan will have the best idea and plans moving forward.

It just doesn't make sense that the road would lead to Ryan.

If they cant get monachino, butler, and the 49ers dont allow us to interview their assistants, then he is probably the next best choice

Has he even been officially interviewed yet? I thought I heard yesterday it wouldn't be until today or Friday.

I think so too. He didn't take/get the Rams job because of the scheme, but I also heard he wanted to bring in his own assistants and Fisher had his own. If that was the case, then I can't see any of the Saints current guys getting let go because the DC wants his own guys.

I thought pretty much the same thing as soon as I read the Larry Holder tweet. Espn tried to salvage it by saying "Well he said they 'plan' on hiring Ryan." To me that's still BS. You're telling me the plan is to hire Ryan, but we'll interviewing another guy before him and we're trying to get permission to interview another? Plan denotes you've made a decision.

When it comes to the media, it's all about wording, and Schefter worded it poorly. I translate it as Rob Ryan is the favorite to be hired, but the way Schefter worded it, would make people believe that a deal was imminent, when it isn't. It seems like he wanted to give a little more than the vague "XYZ is the favorite to land the job", but not fully say it was a done deal (which it obviously isn't).

Like I said, it was just a very poorly worded tweet by Schefter. It also doesn't help that Glazer and Florio pretty much reported the same thing.

Yeah, I will still be surprised if Ryan isn't hired.

Wasn't it reported that it would likely happen at the end of the week?
