Ed Orgeron proved that you don't need OC/DC on your resume as long as you can recruit well and put together a coaching staff. Look at the amazing job he did at Ole Miss.

I tend to put threads of this type on par with all of the RS10 threads. Crazy.

Where do you noobs with 200 posts come from, acting as if you are quality control on the rant?

Ed, I think they are "sheeple". Whenever one of them posts, the others follow to try and be accepted rather than forming a valid opinion and defending it. Instead, they just hurl insults and apparently believe they are funny in some way. It's rather sad tbh.
To the "sheeple": Just state your disagreement, you don't have to try and fail at some witty response in hopes that the "herd" will accept you or give you the ROFL emoticon. Just give your own opinion to the hypothetical question that was presented to the rant.
Also, :inb4youmadbro" because I am not mad. I am just trying to help those on the rant who may not realize that they come off sounding petulant.

Tell that to Dabo Swinney. Who went from recruiting coordinator/receivers coach to head coach of Clemson(which by the way beat us). You don't need to be great at the X's & O's you just need to hire the right people and recruit your butt off.

John Harbaugh was never a coordinator, fwiw.
Hypothetically, lets say LSU would go on a run this year and win the NC...and shortly thereafter Miles retires because he feels it is time. You'd be able to make a pretty good case that the hire should come from within so that the coaching staff stayed mostly intact. Wilson would be the guy, IMO.

a guy who can place and lead the right coordinators and recruit his socks off could very well take over the program and keep us at elite status. it really is that simple.
get better.

Urban Meyer wasn't a coordinator either, but he did start out at a couple lower level schools before the UF job. he was WRs coach at Notre Dame right before taking over Bowling Green.

Great guy and great recruiter. Not enough coordinator or lead experience. Not a chance without even a mid-major head coaching stint.

Dabo Swinney was an interim head coach for 6 games after Bowden left, so he proved himself that way.
Also LSU as a program is on another level than programs that hire guys that haven't cut their teeth as a head coach somewhere or even a coordinator.
It's more to coaching than just recruiting and hire the right people. It's about managing a program.
And that's why you'll never see top teir programs hire guys who haven't proven themselves beyond a position coach as a head coach.

And you have no clue if a guy like Frank Wilson can do this without seeing him prove it somewhere first.
LSU is in a position where they can hire proven guys and not take a gamble on someone with little experience.

One poor coaching hire could topple the program and history has shown that it sometimes can be extremely difficult to come back out of mediocrity. I rather not hedge our bets on an inexperienced coach to get elevated to head man at a program like LSU. A more realistic hypothetical is Frank Wilson taking over as OC at some point.

yeah I think it's gonna be this, or become a HC at a smaller school first, or both. see Mike Haywood. seemed like all he was ever gonna be was a recruiter type, but Charlie Weis made him his OC (though not the playcaller, I assume he had added coaching responsibilities), then got the Miami job and Pitt for a couple days.

Personally, I think he is the perfect guy for the job, aside from Les of course. He is one of the most detailed and competent coaches I have seen, and I think he has instant and lasting success.
it sounds like you know him well. if what you say is true, coach wilson will get his shot. he needs to be a coordinator and perhaps asst. hc first. there are so many variables to being a head coach; being detailed and competent just isn't enough to judge by. leading people is both an art and a skill and handling the media, the fans, the donors, the ncaa and the administration takes some experience and lots of maturity. if wilson has a plan and can get a mentor and then get a co-ord. gig he will be able to showcase his credentials for a hc job.

I'd like to see him as OC somewhere first and maybe even as HC at another school

I believe eventually he will make a good head coach, the man knows how to recruit, build relationships and apparently does a good job of managing. What he needs is to prove that be can be an X's and O's guy successfully. Whether people like it or not, Miles and most all successful head coaches at some point proved they could handle the grind of gameplanning and calling a game correctly.
