Do you think when he didnt pan out well as receiver that he should have been tried maybe as a defensive back? Dude has speed and athletic ability but just cant catch I think he may have made a great DB, corner to be exact

Would have gotten even less reps on defense

I hear the coaches offered that and he declined. Seems physical enough to play DB in my opinion.

Who would he have played in front of? During his career, we have had 2 corners drafted in the top 10, and several DB's drafted or will be drafted in the top half of the draft.

^ he would have had plenty of opportunity last year. Are you kidding?

What is with all the tards that think just because a player doesn't pan out at one position we should just turn around and put them at another position and that they would succeed there? We've had some pretty decent DBs the last few years if you don't remember so I am highly doubting that he would have seen much PT.

Go. Away.

He didnt see much PT at this position either so I doubt it wouldve been different. This year and last year we rotated DB's in and out the game. Shep doesnt have hands but he has speed and blocks and tackles very well. Ie Special Teams plays and tackles he makes

RS10 was the greatest FB player to grace the field in TS. He would have been a tremendous asset on both sides of the ball if the coaching staff had used him correctly. He fierce tackling would have made him a natural at Mike LB. That combined with featuring him as the go to back on offense would have ensured wins in the BCSNCG each of the last 4 years.

I wouldn't mind seeing Fobbs at CB.

If Ryan Perilloux was better at making fake id's would he have panned out! I like RS as much as anyone and wish him luck, but can we move on to the present and quit second guessing the past!

No kidding but you can't just switch every player that doesn't play much to a different position.

Daily Shep thread. I wonder when these will end. I'm putting the over/under at 2 years.

he made a few decent plays on special teams...look the way I see it if he pans out to be like a matthew slater (patriots wr/special teamer) then I think he has definitely succeeded

no
Mills, Simon, and Collins are all better CBs. RS10 has never played a down on CB in the SEC, he wouldn't magically become a great DB. He is fast, but let's be honest, later on in his career, he wasn't running away from everyone. Safeties and DBs from other teams were able to close on him downfield. He had one shot to make it as a big time CFB player and that was to pull a Percy Harvin and be RB/WR/PR/KR hybrid. RS10's problem is he doesn't catch the ball well. He was never able to develop fully in game situations because JJ had a rough time throwing accurately and RS10 ran poor WR routes. This year he was buried on the depth chart behind better WRs.
RS10 is a great ambassador for the program and is forever a tiger and I wish him nothing but the best, but he just didn't do it at the CFB level. He will get his shot to make it to the next level, but there are some major flaws in his game that he needs to fix to play in the NFL. For the record, I hope he makes it.
