Snow White and the Huntsman

So the family and I just got around to watching this. I paid 4.99 for it also which I was immediately regretting.
Charlize Theron is awesome, the movie starts off pretty well. But it takes a serious turn downhill when they have to start focusing on Snow White.
Now let me stop here and say that I have kind of defended Kristen Stewart here before. I thought she did a really good job as Joan Jett in The Runaways. And that Bella was just a shitty character whom no one could save.
Survey says "X". (Loud buzzing noise)
OMG she was horrible. The director knew this also and smartly gave her very little dialogue throughout the movie. Speaking of the director and the movie, this guy was obviously a fan of Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia, Princess Bride and Harry Potter. Because I swear I was watching exact replicas of scenes from those movies.
The most ridiculous part comes when Bella, err Snow White escapes from the castle by sliding into the ocean via the sewer drains. Then she gets to the beach and a horse is literally sitting there waiting on her. A white horse, literally sitting there. I'm thinking, okay, this horse was magically sent her and will be her Pegasus or something. Uh, no. The whole point of the horse is so the director can orchestrate some grand Return of the King type horse chase as she escapes from the kingdom. The horse gets stuck in the mud and she ditches it as soon as she reaches the Fire Swamp, er I mean the Dark Forest.
It goes on like this switching back between LotR warriors hiking on trail with elf music playing scens intertwined with Narnia magical animals in pristine places scenes.
And when we finally get to hear Kristen Stewart speak up and say more than one line of dialogue, she gives a riveting ID4 pump them up speech. I swear I wish I'd had a gun.
The one bright spot is the special F/X. Whomever was in charge of that did a fantastic job with the queen.
frick this movie and damn it to hell. If you enjoy unintentional comedy, please watch.

The fact that she continually wins Best Actress awards at MTV and Teen Choice shows really makes me concerned for our future if this is what kids think is talent.

It was not good but not too horrible either. Stewart was poorly cast for sure. She's not pretty enough or compelling enough for that role. But I think she's a good actress. She was great in Adventureland. This was just a role she wasn't made for.

The movie could have been a lot better with a different actress. I wonder if the studios made the director cast her or something.
And let me just go ahead and rant on this for a little bit. After Snow goes in the Dark Forest, she immediately gets incapacitated and has to be rescued by the Huntsmen which has to be at least a day later. Between this crap and Twilight, I am so sick of the way Hollywood portrays females in movies. I'm not some super liberal feminist, but I have a teenage daughter and it pisses me off to no end that Hollywood portrays 90% of women as either sex crazed, in need of rescue, or just plane crazy.

It was an ok movie. Could have been better if it were not for the piss poor casting.

Hems worth was great and Theron was too pretty compared to Snow.

It was pretty bad. Twilight chick's speech was also hysterically bad.

You're complaining about Hollywood portraying women as in need of rescue after watching a Snow White movie? That's kind of the point of Snow White.
If anything this movie tried to go the opposite direction and make Snow White more of a warrior towards the end.

Just in general.
I would argue the opposite.
I see Hollywood portraying females as nothing but the smartest in the group, and/or the most bad-arse kick-arse warrior that, even though they are 5ft nothing and 100 and nothing pounds, somehow manage to kick a large soldier dude's arse.
Girl power!
And I have 2 daughters, I am all for girls to be strong but come on man.
Keira Knightly beating up a big hulking dude that is trained to kill, just because.
And what's worse...is that most of the time, these are period pieces. Supposedly historical.
I am sure we'll see Marie Antoinette played by Kristin Stewart one day, weilding a flame thrower and a two-handed sword, at the same time, and punching dudes in the face and knocking out all the King's guards or something.

I caught it at the $1 show knowing I wouldn't want to spend $10 on it. The whole time I'm thinking Charlize is way "fairer" than Kristin Stewart. The whole premise of the movie was a joke imo, in that we're supposed to believe Kristin Stewart is prettier than Charlize Theron, who btw did an awesome job imo, but she always does.
I think Stewart did a good job in The Runaways, but she always seems to play the same character imo, or that's just her real personality coming through ie: she sucks at acting.

ill give stewart one thing - she has the blank stare mastered.

That she does. I've seen her in interviews like on Regis and Kelly, Ellen, etc. and watching her be interviewed is almost painful to watch. It's like pulling teeth to try and get her to speak. She gives one word answers and seems extremely uncomfortable and fidgets a lot. She's one of those people that I want to say, if the publicity and fame is such a bother, maybe you chose the wrong profession.

the movie was downright awful. Full of cliches, bad acting and a terrible completely unbelievable hole ridden plot.
Turrible.
In fact, the wife and I decided to watch it one night after we were amped from going clubbing. We stopped it in the middle as the xanax kicked in. We decided to try to watch the rest a month or so later in the same scenario, couldn't finish it. Finally we finished it when we were bored and wanted to kill 30 mins before bed.
frick atrocious film.
