A lot of it is studio work where his guitar plays second fiddle to something else, usually vocals.

My favorite Duane stuff (obv aside from Filmore East) is the 2 jams off the Layla 25th Anniversary box set. I wish those went on forever.

This is a plus to me, at least in terms of his musical ability. Duane wasn't trying to show off or override the composition, he added what was tasteful and improved the overall cohesiveness of the song.
