Saints condering Crennel and Mangini per Schefty

Two defensive coaching candidates the Saints will consider adding to staff include Eric Mangini and Romeo Crennel, per league sources. It’s even possible the two could go together to New Orleans with one serving as defensive coordinator, sources said. When reached Friday about this possibility, Mangini said he has not been contacted by anybody from the Saints about any position. Mangini and Crennel worked on the same Patriots coaching staff that won three Super Bowls in New England. Saints have told people they plan to proceed with their defensive coordinator search slowly and there’s no rush to fill the position.

Hiring both of them would be a baller move.

No shite.
That would rock.

Mangini has 1 yr coordinating experience

My guess would be that it is pure speculation from Schefter. They are the most logical candidates as they are both available, and both considered very good 3-4 Defensive Coaches.
Don't let either's HC failures to throw you off, they would both be good.
When I hear something from Jay Glazer, then I will pay attention.

I'm good with this. My only concern is hiring a guy that could be hired away as a HC next year. I actually like the LB's coach out of Pitt as well. Someone like that can come here and get a few years out of. It's the proven vs potential decision, and I'd be fine with any of them.

Neither will ever get another HC gig again. Ever.
Romeo will likely be interviewed more to meet Rooney Rule requirements, but he will never get a HC job again.

If the trend holds true, organizations looking for HCs are tapping guys on the offensive side of the ball. Defensive coaches have got to be studs nowadays to have a shot.

I think this is a bs report...of course they would be considered...theyre 2 of the better 3-4 coordinators out there
for the record...I am all in on Crennel

Mangenius
On second thought, I DO NOT WANT Mangina. The "Mangenius" moniker is nauseating

But, yeah, neither of them will be hired away as a HC next year, or the year after that, or the year after that.

Now where have I heard this before.......

If I remember correctly, both guys run the Bill Parcells 2 Gap 3-4 Defense.(which is, by far, the most common). We are going to need a very good NT in that scheme to absorb 2 blockers.
Mangini is also known for being pretty innovative, right?

I mean, pretty sure Clefty just came to this board, looked at who we were talking about, and figured "That makes sense, I'll say the Saints are considering it"
I mean, he goes on to say that Mangini has not been contacted.
These "journalists" are total fricking hacks and they are all terrible tabloidists
He could have said the Saints are "considering" any fricking DC who has ever worked in a 3-4 and he'd be right.
fricking lame that he tries to pretend like he has some inside info when clearly Payton and Loomis are probably the only two who know who the frick they want to talk to.
