Will we ever see the Dune series get the treatment it deserves?

With the whole series being done, And done right?
Frank Herbert's worlds are so rich, and the stories so masterfully crafted. Besides the sting version and the Sci-Fi treatment of a few books, will we see a high production value redux of the series?

If they did, how far do you think they should take it? Just the first three novels? or the whole thing? I thought Chapterhouse Dune had some bad arse moments and characters. They would have to do something about the series ending on a cliffhanger though. Would they use Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson's books to end the series? I really don't think that they did justice to the rest of the series.

The novels are too complex to be successfully and faithfully adapted to a movie. A miniseries would be possible, but I think it would still be difficult to do it correctly. It's not impossible for a miniseries to be done well, but it would definitely have to be a perfect storm of everything going correctly. I don't think it happens.

The whole thing, all 7 books. The Game of Thrones treatment.

Inconceivable.

There were 6 books. He died before he finished the 7th book. His son and some hack took the notes for the 7th book and split it into 2 books to finish the series. It was painful for me to read. Like I said, I don't trust that they successfully conveyed the correct story. It was better than nothing though I guess.

I wish that I could just get Frank Herbert's original notes and make my own decision about where he wanted to take the story. If a miniseries was to be made, I think that basing it off of the notes would come out better than basing it on the abomination that was Hunters of Dune and Sandworms of Dune.

I wish. One of my favorite movies ever. Could be so great.

HBO would be nice. Content needs to be a hard R.

I've never bothered to read the new material. I wasn't happy with the reason for the return from the scattering.

I wonder if the notes and outlines were real or just bs the son said to ride on daddy's coattails.

I actually like the extended version of dune. Mainly because I had not read the series when the movie came out.

the sci-fi mini series weren't great but they were better than nothing.

i really liked the movie with sting in it. I thought it was quite well done.

granted it wasnt anything like the book.

I doubt it happens beyond book 1 and 2, since several of the books are really slow and heavy on characters.

This wouldn't surprise me. Brian Herbert's books were lame as hell. Character development, pointless, predictable subplots, and overall direction of the story just pissed me off.

Whatever they make it will be an upgrade over the 80's version.

How about the first 4. Since it was a 4 book original story run.

Dune
Dune Messiah
Children of Dune
God Emperor of Dune

Was hoping sci-fi would get to god emperor.

4 isn't enough. I want to see the slutty witches returning from the scattering.

Man...me too.

Wish someone would do these someday. Like PJ took over LOTR and made it come to life.
I think Dune is so much harder though, because its so esoteric and cereberal as much as anything.

Your last sentence summed up why it won't happen IMO. It would take an epic masterpiece of a directing/producing job to bring this story to life for anyone who hasn't read the books already.
