In my opinion it has passed its peak and is on the way down.
Hoarders have hoarded and flippers have flipped. People have bought new guns and supplied them either via hard work tracking down ammo or over paying the flippers for it.
The result is that prices have gone up for the flipper...and crazy buyers are not as abundant as they once were which is driving the profit margins down for the flipper. As the flippers get out of the business, the inventory will start hitting stores again.
If you are a flipper....I completely understand why you did it, I did it to. But you better start lowering your inventory and start moving what you have because it is going to be like the FL housing market fall out in about 6 months.
I know a couple of flippers that are sitting on $10-20K left of ammo that are starting to get worried because profits have tracked down for 3 straight weeks now. I think that the time of the flipper will soon pass and when it does, the long lines will go down, the build buys will go down, and the inventory will go up.
Just my 2 cents worth...and I might be due some change on that 2 cents worth but that is what I feel and see.

im not a flipper! im a hoarder but have been with ammo for a few years. i havent paid any jacked up prices, just made sure i had my own supply if something like this happend! Glad i did, its nice not worrying about trying to find a box of 22 ammo because i wana go squirrel hunting, or having to pay $1 a bullet for 223 because i wana go out and shoot some in the field! maybe more people will be prepared next time... could be worse

I'm the same way I bought for me and others, but I don't see it getting better anytime soon. When Walmart, bass pro, and cabelas has inventory on hand and you and youcan go in on any day at any time and buy it them the bubble has burst.

I agree with your post. I'm done buying stuff that I don't own guns for. As of now, I'm only buying things that people have requests for. I have 3 guys who said they will buy any and all AK ammo I run across, up to 10,000 rounds. That's the main thing I'm looking for right now. A couple other guys said they will take all .22 I can find at 0.10 CPR. I can see the profit margins shrinking which is why I won't be buying anything that I don't have someone who is requesting it from me
Prices won't be going down that much though. We are in a new norm of 0.40cpr as cheap .223. We are also at least 6-8 months before shelves are regularly stocked again

quote:I hope you're right because i'm not done buying if I can find ammo for the right price. This will not be the last scare we have because some fruitcake shoots up a school, unfortunatly. I will not be caught with my pants down next time, I'll have all the ammmo and mags I can posssibly need for myself and for possibly flipping.
because it is going to be like the FL housing market fall out in about 6 months.
I think it'll also be 8-12 months before we see ammo readily on shelves again, and at least a year before reloading supplies are available. Although people are not 'hoarding' much anymore, they're still gonna pick up a box here and a box there every time they see it available for <.50cpr

Prices from the store...no, they will not go down. But prices from flippers will plummet to the point that it will actually be possible for flippers could get stuck with ammo that they cant move....or have to take a loss for it.
I mean....I bought some 22 ammo for 10CPR and made a pretty damn good profit off a bulk buy and flip....I would have never paid 10CPR for 22 ammo BUT that was a great score.
I think that the point is coming where people need to start buying smarter..Flippers buying 22 ammo in bulk at 8-10CPR will soon find themselves sitting on bulk 22 ammo. Of course with 22 ammo that really isnt a huge deal..because it is cheap and who couldnt go out and blow through a couple thousand rounds out at the camp one weekend...
I just used 22 as a base for conversation but with the higher caliber (more expensive) ammo, the risk is higher of course.
I am not saying it is over, but I am saying that it is probably time for flippers (and personal purchasers) to start being a little more selective. And for flippers, dont piss away everything that you have worked for over the last 3-4 months.
Sounds like you are doing that TTT, I wasnt directing this post at you, just sharing thoughts with the board mostly.

I dont disagree with you at all. But if you were doing it more as a business than as an investment in you personal ammo stash, you could easily end up watch your investment/profits sit in a safe for a long time.
My goals were modest with I got into it...I simply wanted to make enough for a few guns/accessories that I wanted to get and a nice stock pile of ammo. So I dont look at it like a really flipped for major profits or anything...I just flipped and dumped it right back in....but in the end, I ended up with a better gun stash and ammo for FREE
I am done turning this into a chat thread for now and will let it get back to its purpose...but I think that it was a good exchange of information amongst people on the board that are "kinda in the game" I think that it is good to share information amongst us to make sure no one is driving with blinders on.

We cover this "awaiting payment" issue on the home page of the web-site, but, basically it says that, because we don't bill your credit card until we ship your order. In the comings days your status will change to "awaiting fulfillment" meaning we are processing your order. At Delta3 we do not bill you until we ship your order and if you do find them elsewhere before we can get them for you, you can cancel your order with us at NO COST TO YOU. Our inventory has literally flown off the shelves these past 3-1/2 months, so, we are waiting on orders to re-supply. All of our suppliers have experienced the same thing, so, we might be in for a wait to get more in stock, but, by keeping your order open you are at least in line to get them when they come in. We are currently filling orders that were placed before yours with the allocations we're getting, so, you are in the waiting line & when you get to the front of the line we will fill your order as well.
