Mrs. s'happy and I went there tonight to grab a bite and check it out. I know this is the first week open, however, our meal was delicious. She had shrimp and grits. I had shrimp remoulade, along with a bowl of Andouille and duck gumbo. We loved the food. Problem is this restaurant is one of the loudest I've ever been in, without music....Too loud for a "semi-high end" restaurant. Also, the tables were very close together, which made it uncomfortable. Service was good.

Ever eaten in New York City?

Yep. I dined there last night.

Loud noise in a high end restaurant bothers me too

I do not like to pay an expensive bill for dinner and have to speak loudly to be heard. It was like being at a sports bar...and yes, I have eaten in NYC, and don't like the loud restaurants...

Like I said, I dined there last night (there was a thread) and my party felt like it was too loud. The food and service was good, but it was loud as hell. They need to think about some sort of sound absorbing coating for the ceiling.

Stay away from Louisiana Lagniappe.
Last couple times I've been there, there was that table. You know the one...party of about 12 or 16, four or five tables pushed together, laughing and carrying on at the top of their lungs. I won't go back to LL because of this. Shame. Food kicks arse.

LL is as quiet as the Superdome for a Rice vs Tulane game compared to this place. We were at a round table of six on Thursday, and you could only hear the people seated immediately on either side of you. And this table was small enough that 3 appetizers barely fit. WAY TOO LOUD.

You must be a blast to hang out with.

Ever read a New York restaurant critic's review of a noisy restaurant?

Ate there for the first time a few years ago. Very loud indeed.

I agree, we couldn't hear what the waiter was saying because it was so loud. It may have something to do with having one large dining room with a drywall ceiling. Not very good for acoustics.

so you love the food, but will never go back because one time you visited there was a loud table by you? That makes sense...

How much did that run you? Do they have table cloths? What's the lighting and decor like?

There trying to recreate the New Orleans atmosphere. That's how it is there.
The old Galatoire's was like eating in a morgue

Is it trying to mimic the original in New Orleans? That main dining room can be incredibly loud, but it always seemed to improve the atmosphere to me. Might work out better for this joint than the rather sterile dining room the old Galatoire's Bistro had.
ETA: Damn, beaten to it.

to each his own, but this thread saved me $150, no need for me to go now, not my style, but I wish them well and hope they succeed, as they have sunk an enormous amount of money into this project
