Islanders could be 7th and avoid Pittsburgh.
Could, lose to Buffalo tonight and they clinch 8th seed.
Win tonight and the Rangers have to lose to NJD, otherwise they are 8th.
So they need some help.

I am thinking aside from Boston and Toronto the East teams look super soft Boston is more dirty than tough

I don't think the Pens are that soft, Engelland and Murray are both big physical enforcers that fight, Orpik is physical as well.
Neal and Malkin play a pretty physical game in the playoffs, Malkin really like to finish checks and Morrow is a pretty physical guy as well as Iginla.
I like the combination the Pens have.

obviously y'all wern't built to be a physical team, our former GM expressed a desire to be complete fricking animals in the playoffs (if we ever made the playoffs) I am confident if the Leafs play anyone they won't be out-hit or out-worked out skilled? yeah that's not gonna be our strong suit

This is the most gritty caps team I can remember with the additions of Oleksy, Volpatti, and Erat. They went toe to toe with Boston last year in physicality.

Really? The 80s/90s Caps were nothing but grit. They were the scrappiest team on earth, just lacking in what's that word? Oh, right. Talent. OK, they had Bondra, but the Caps are more of a Dale Hunter and Rod Langway team.

whoa Baloo...I meant in recent memory...but it's readily apparent that the Caps teams in recent years have been abundantly talented but lacking in toughness...I think you'll agree that playoff hockey is big boy hockey and some people on your recent Caps teams have tended to :coughcough: disappear come playoff time...
Posted on 4/26/13 at 9:15 am to LSUCanFAN
Oh and BTW there are people on this board that weren't born when Rod Langway was one of the finest defencemen to play the game...I used to feel sorry for Rod back in those days, the way I felt sorry for Stevie Y, those Caps teams were a fricking horror show...

Right but we aren't soft and our trades added physicality.
I like our mix.

We've had this discussion before and I think every person who has commented on the Caps is wrong. The Caps won by being different and trying to be like everyone else turned them into a mediocre team. And in what series were they "out-toughed"? The Habs just had miracle goaltending. The Lightning won by the trap and having a better top line. The Rangers was a coin flip series that came up tails. I don't think the Caps lost any of those series because they lacked toughness.
The most brutal series the Caps played in their current incarnation, they won. They out-toughed the Bruins.
What the Caps needed was more skill on the second line, and some secondary scoring. There was way too much standing around and waiting for Ovie.

Well CBJ still has life, Minnesota down 5-0 to Edmonton .

Minnesota down 6-0? Holy balls.

Yes the Wild are blowing it right now.

Islanders lose in a shootout.
Rangers need 1 point tomorrow at NJD for 7th seed, regulation loss and they get the Pens.

I know we have the tiebreaker on CBJ, but what if there's a three way tie at 54 or 55 points?
Posted on 4/26/13 at 9:45 pm to UltimateHog
Would love a Rangers / Caps rematch!!

2 or more team tie is still ROW wins. Detroit/Minnesota have 21, and CBJ has 18, so CBJ would be out.
To then break the tie between Detroit/Min would come down to head to head points and if two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game are not included.
Min/Det played 3 times, with Min winning the last 2 games, as the first game is not included as it's in Detroit which had the extra game.
Minnesota has the 3rd tiebreaker over Detroit.
