re: How much does the quality of your golf ball matter?

The biggest difference to me is putting. My Mom bought me 6 dozen Gamers last year for practice. They are a fantastic ball from tee to green. I had to start using a Pro V1x to putt, ball I use in tournaments, because it was damn near impossible for m me to putt with the Gamer. It was very inconsistent off the face. Every other hole it would just explode off the face. If you're looking for a ball to play in practice rounds, the Slazenger Raw Feel is what I've been using this Winter with good results. Can't beat 48 for $30. They're long and straight and stop on the green.
