LSU (9-3) comes back home after their road loss to Auburn to play their first SEC home game against the University of Florida (11-2) on Saturday at 3pm. Florida comes in ranked #10 in the country. KenPom.com computer ranking has Florida as their #1 team, and their RPI is consensus top 15. They have the 3rd best offensive efficiency in the country thanks to some very impressive shooters and great team ball control. I could tell you everything else they are good at, but the list goes on...

Their two losses came at Arizona and at Kansas State. Against Arizona, Florida allowed a 22-10 run in the last 10 minutes of the game, losing by 1, 65 to 64. Against Kansas State, the Wildcats took the lead 12 minutes in, and never looked back. Kansas State ended the game 7-17 from 3 point land, made 20 free throws, had 11 offensive rebounds, and only 10 turnovers. Florida doesn't turn the ball over very often, so there isn't room for mistakes.

Florida does have some minor injuries. Coach Donovan said Erik Murphy (ribs) and Will Yeguete (knee) won't be 100 percent for weeks. Even so, they beat Georgia at home by 33 in their SEC opener and are very dangerous. It will be imperative that LSU guards their shooters. They have 4 starters shooting over 34% from beyond the arc, and shoot 37.6% as a team (LSU shoots 36.1%).

The Gators only give about 8 players significant minutes. LSU may try to run Florida as much as possible to get some good looks and try to force Florida to tire their legs, especially with Murphy and Yeguete banged up (neither played over 20 minutes against UGA).

Florida is the superior team in this matchup. They have been tested and have done very well. That being said, they have lost two games and it is tough to win on the road. LSU will have to shoot much better than they did against Auburn to have a chance. They will need to rebound well and take care of the ball. It would be very helpful if the Tigers can force Florida into some uncharacteristic turnovers. All this will need to happen for LSU to win the game.

I don't know who is going to be able to stop Patric Young on Florida. While their 3 point shooting is very solid, Young is the rock in the middle and is seriously dangerous. He most recently made his way into the top 10 of Ken Pomeroy's Player of the Year list at 10. Del Peiro has done a better job recently of not getting pushed around but the majority of the work will be put on Johnny O'Bryant. Keeping JOB out of foul trouble will be imperative.

Prediction:
LSU 73, Florida 82

And Im gonna post this picture cause it always makes me laugh:

LSU is having approximately 22 football recruits this weekend, and they plan to attend the LSU basketball game versus Florida. Each player will meet with the football coaches, have lunch, and attend the basketball game which is set to tip off at 3:00pm in the PMAC.

For some of these athletes, this may be their first LSU event. For some it may be their first NCAA Basketball game. So football fans, basketball fans, and LSU fans in general should make it their business to PACK THE PMAC this Saturday to root on the Tigers versus #10 Florida.

The weekend is called "Boys from the Boot" and is an invite only event for football players in the 2014 class (Juniors right now). LSU has yet to receive an instate commitment for the class and expects multiple players to pledge their loyalty this weekend to the Tigers.

While the players know it is not a football game with 92,600 fans, they certainly could be impressed with a great crowd and some intensity. The basketball squad will need the fan support behind them to knock off the Gators, who won their SEC opener by 33.

Those in attendance:

Leonard Fournette, RB, St. Augustine, 6-1 225, (LSU offer)

Cameron Robinson, OT, West Monroe, 6-6 320, (LSU offer)

We going to need the PMAC to be rocking and play a near perfect game to take this one.

JOB III has to play smart (DONT PICKUP 4 fouls in 15 minutes)
Hickey has to play great defense once again and distribute
Carmouche has to realize early on if they arent going to stop jacking up 10 shots
Del Piero has to own his much shorter guy for the spurts he's in
We have to hit wide open 3's and fricking layups

Need a perfect storm of things to happen :lol

Hopefully the crowd shows up. No reason not to have at least 10K in the PMAC. The game's at 3:00. It will be over at 5:00. No one has to get up "early" to make it to an 11:30 or 12:00 tip. Conversely, the game will be over in plenty of time for everyone to do what they want to do on Sat. night. This is likely the best team LSU will play at home this year (maybe period). Give these guys some support. You can tell on the few occasions that they get it, they really feed off of it. UF is the better team, but LSU's definitely got a "shooter's chance" at home.

Positives going into this game.

1. Florida can't be taking us very seriously considering how they have beat us like a drum the last three years and how we played against Auburn.

2. We can't play much worse than we did at Auburn. That is in taking advantage of our opportunities. Remains to be seen whether Florida even let's us get any chances.
3. Carmouche will have a better game. He is a solid player and just needs to relax more and let the game come to him and not try to force anything. Same with Coleman.
4. Hickey and Stringer are playing great defense and offense. Making all those guys who said they weren't tall enough to eat their words.
5. One of these games Hammink or Morgan are going to come out aggresive and start hitting some shots. Hopefully Collins will be back and 100% also.

Even if all o this comes true we will still need a lot of luck on our side. Florida is just that good!

How much can you normally land tickets for outside of the arena for games like this?

I'll be at work but I'll be there in spirit. Hopefully the SS will be more packed than usual with everyone coming back to BR this weekend.

Good run down. I don't think the score will be that high. LSU plays solid d at the guard position and should be able to ugly the game up enough to keep the score down a little.
