Good coaches? Good athletes?

There always seems to be a debate as to whether we believe Miles is a great coach or not. .......IMO I think he's just benefitting from having great athletes. It appears that the players seems to go through a regression the longer they stay at LSU. From the quarterback position to even the coveted DL position and everything in between it just seems as though the players are hitting their peaks early.
I know some will quickly point out that Les has guided us to two NC games, but talent wise who had better talent than LSU? We've had highly recruited qb's only to perform subpar thus far, top wr's only to see them perform below their peak performance and our linemen seems to just take plays off at crucial times.
I would just like to hear you guys/gals opinions on this.
When A&M's OC left the school their head coach Sumlin was forced to call the plays vs Oklahoma and they still put up 40. You constantly see Nick grilling his defensive players, Spurrier is always talking to his quarterbacks about they see. I know Mett has requested having his isolation booth, but what good is it if he's not being coached up rather than left alone?

You're gonna get a lot of your opinion refuted. That's all I got for now.

I don't think our QBs ever peak

I foresee a lot of refudiations of points and eviscerations of arguments.

it's his offense, not the old OC's.

not every coach has that style or personality, there are plenty of successful coaches who don't explode on the sidelines

who is the last decent QB Spurrier developed

not sure this even deserves an answer

Miles is a great recruiter. That's 50% of the battle. You can't win championships without the horses. With that said, he is a horrific coach. He can't manage a clock, personnel decisions, etc. John Chavis has saved his job the last few years. Les Miles can do nothing on his own, and for that reason alone he doesn't deserve the recognition or money that he gets.

That's one of the points......how can someone like JJ away from be regarded as a top recruit but perform poorly, though he had a few spurts early(MVP Freshman bowl game, A&M bowl game performance) and was even given wows and oohs only having Andrew Luck perform better at the Manning camp? It doesn't make sense, Mett was supposed to be the second coming of Brady (according to a few diehard fans) what happened?

Who gets the credit for all these great athletes?

Give Mett time. Early in the season he was getting his feet wet in d-1 cfb (due to terrible qb development by our staff).

Miles, LSU, and position coaches recruiting them.

Who hired the position coaches that recruits well? It's really hard for some of you to give credit where credit is due.
The name LSU has nothing to do with it.

So out of 25 players you think none of them are coming here simply because they love LSU?

I have always said Miles is a good recruiter.. Tell me why the position coaches(who have the most contact with the recruits) and LSU facilities as well as strength of the program does not aid in recruiting.

So it's fair to give credit to this same person when LSU looses to teams like Clemson?

Yes, Miles gets the blame for an inept offense. Just as he gets the credit for recruiting these great athletes to LSU and for keeping LSU on the national stage the past 8 years.
Unlike so many on this board, I'm not an unreasonable person incapable of seeing the obvious.

all those things help, that's why every top school focuses so much on them...but that all the more reason max effort has to be put into recruiting.

The Bama letdown this year?

I don't think anyone would say Miles is a great gameday coach and some of his decisions hurt us in that game. But in the end, we were one prevent defense away from beating them.
Now, will you give Miles any credit for winning 80% of his games, 2 SEC titles and 1 NC title?

If LSU has 10-11 win seasons the next four years with no NC will you be satisfied even with a top 5 recruiting class?
