Saban was far from garbage in the NFL as a HC especially in light of the fact that the Dolphins were in a rebuilding stage when he was there. Saban didn't go to a franchise with talent on deck
Ok but if i'm not mistaken Saban's first year at Bama when he didn't have any talent on deck he went 7-6. When he started doing what he does best....recruiting....he started winning. The great coaches of college football are the coaches who can do the most with the least talent. I can win 10 games with the talent Bama puts on the field.

Or his methods took hold, he had a year to coach his players to play his way, and, yes, he recruited players for his system.
Saban gets the best out of the best players. Not every coach can do that. He knows exactly what his team's strengths and weaknesses are. He puts his teams in a position where their weaknesses are shored up and their strengths are highlighted.
