Advanced metrics also have Hornets D as least efficient defense in the league.
Well tehchampion140's advanced statistics say that we have the least talented roster in the entire league, especially when EG was not playing. You can't expect him to make chicken salad out of chicken shite. Look at what he did the one year he had a talented roster before CP3 was traded.

Or that we are one of the worst scoring teams in the league, again, just like every season since he's been here.
Wrong. 16, 26, and 18 in offensive efficiency his three years. The PPG is a flawed stat because they play so slow. Likewise his defensive prowess is overrated because of pace

The bitching on this board is unbelievable. You'd think we were the Lakers. We're a young, bad team, who's in the middle of a rebuild and we just got a really nice win.
....lets spend the next hour bitching and complaining. The game threads are like an episode of "real housewives" with all the emo whining over every missed shot.

And we don't foul up 3 with 4 seconds left. Unreal.
There is some disagreement on that strategy. I typically agree, but plenty of smart basketball people would argue it.

Let's just ignore that every time he draws up a play at the end of a game to win it it's a fricking abortion.
You have to have good players to execute a play. We don't have that. It's hard to judge a coach's effectiveness when your players aren't very capable.

100% correct.
This team will start to play better now that we are healthy. I think it's a middle of the pack line up. Hopefully we will start seeing less Rivers with Gordon back and some better line ups. We have some really bad PER line ups that have been out there but I don't blame Monty for that. Smith will drastically improve this as well since he can stretch the floor.

This.
And again, he drew a great play in the second to last possession of regulation. He gave Vasquez a chance to win it with his hot hand for on the last possession and it didn't work out. He can't control Gordon losing the ball or Smith getting called for an illegal screen

I don't think Monty is the worst coach in the league. Just below average. Obviously he has been very handcuffed this year but he has put out many puzzling line ups. I don't think our defense has been anywhere near the same since Malone left. Malone is the next Tom Thiodeau so this is to be somewhat expected.
What really concerns me is how bad our defensive efficiency is and how bad we are coming out of time outs. We also miss so many 2 for 1 opportunities. This is coaching.

Yeah, the play was fine. They spread the floor for Vasquez and Smith who were both rolling at that point.
I bet if Jason Smith had it to do over again he would've actually set that pick instead of trying to slip it.

Let's not forget OJ Mayo missed 2 wide open corner 3s in OT. Again this is the most efficient shot in the NBA outside the lane and we are the worst team defending it and offensive attempts,

I do think he needs to work on how he runs an offense, but it's so hard to get a competent offense with incompetent players. One thing I do notice is that our bigs need to set better picks. A lot of times it'll be a very lazy pick that might not even touch the player guarding the ball handler. I was at the opener against the Spurs and their bigs are so much better at picking the defender and setting up open looks.

We'd still be a dumpsterfire.

I don't have a ton of issues with our offense. We had a lot of line ups earlier this season with 2 or more players that can't space the floor. This will be an issue if it continues but should correct itself now that we have our players back. Main offensive issue I have with Monty is that he is terrible out of timeouts. Lack of shooters in corners also concerning.

This would be my biggest complaint. Tonight was a prime example at the end of the first through about half of the second quarter.

Agreed, but I think the defensive talent is worse than the offensive talent- especially on the wings- and the youth (ball watching, not knowing rotations, etc) are the main culprits IMO. I expect to see improvement as the season progresses. At this rate it shouldn't be hard to do.

Has anyone mentioned Monty's decision not to call timeout before Gordon's game winning shot? He let them play through instead of calling a TO to set something up, which would have also allowed the defense to get set.
Terrible decision...

He's real good at drawing up different things, but I don't really like our main set. Though I think that has more to do with our lack of offensive players than Monty.

I think he does a good job developing players (especially big men) and getting them to play hard, but he's awful in actual game management.
When Malone left Monty replaced him with Dave Hanners, an experienced coach with a nice resume, but he was an assistant when Monty was playing in Philly just like Ayers. Monty really needs to bring in an assistant outside of his comfort zone. He needs to find his Tex Winter.

You really are the worst poster on this board

That's assuming I'm catching your sarcasm

So what makes you smarter than professional NBA GMs, coaches, and players who all think he is an excellent young coach who can do great things with an actual talented roster?
Is that why teams were beating down Monty's door to interview him? He wasn't even the Hornet's first choice. They had to settle for him after Thibs wouldn't even schedule an interview.
