Howard better than both Zo and Dikembe. Easily

Below Shaquille, Hakeem, David, and Patrick?
Posted on 1/5/13 at 12:23 am to Ray Penpillage
i think the only one he is better than on that list is Ewing mainly because of his rebounding

Total career or in prime?
Posted on 1/5/13 at 12:34 am to Ray Penpillage
Ewing had a 6yr span where he averaged 24-28ppg/11reb

Ewing had a higher bpg avg for his career (played well past his prime)than Dwight does currently. Not definitive, but it surprised me when I looked it up. I give the edge to Pat, btw.

Far and away Mourning IMO
Mourning gave more consistent effort but DH is marginally taller maybe? I don't recall AM's free throws being as big of a handicap as DH - but then again I'm not sure his fg% was as good as DH's either.

I think early Hakeem is the best comparison.

Gone are the days of Will Purdue, Bill Wennington, and Luc Longley.

maybe, tho young Hakeem was more 80s than 90s I kinda think
FWIW I think both AM and Hakeem were more competitive and occasionally maybe even vicious when they thought it was necessary to win a game - DH is too nice of a guy sometimes

I think Howard would have much more trouble in the 90's NBA. He would be playing against much better centers night in and night out.
All his stats would be down.
So I don't even know if he'd be 5th best...

I think he is Bill Cartwright with good knees. Little bigger, but Cartwright could shoot and was more team oriented.

he would only be the 5th best center if he played in the 90s behind Shaq, Hakeem, Ewing, Robinson.
Mourning & Daugherty>>>>>>>Dwight

Brad Daugherty was better offensively not better rebounder or defensive presence.
ETA:
I rank the 90 Centers this way
Robinson
Shaq
Olajuwon
Ewing
Cartwright
Daugherty

You have to go with Zo. Minus Howard's abysmally poor FT percentage, it's pretty similar.
Granted, this is predicated upon my perceptions as a youth, which are admittedly jaded. That being said, we're talking about a freakishly sized/athletic center who is, at best, second, maybe even third option on his team offensively but is a commanding presence in the paint. He does both with a degree of skill that screams, "next big thing" but he never quite makes that hurdle. Semms like Zo.
To me, Ewing was the like the modern day Garnett, maybe Garnett 4 or 5 years ago.

I think Mutumbo was better than Zo, but then again I always saw Zo as a 4.

Daugherty is a better player than Dwight.
