2013 LSU QB position problem

We have 5 QBs on the roster this year:
Bolden (JR transfer)DNP
Arant (RS Fr) DNP
Kragthorpe (Fr transfer) DNP
Mett (Jr), Played in every game & possession minus blowout at the end at North Texas & Idaho, and when Mett got pulled for one series against Ole Miss.
River (Fr), Played in 3 games with 2 pass attempts
Randall(Fr). DNP
Plus next year you have Jennings and Rettig coming in for a total of 7 QBs scheduled to be here in 2013.
I believe we will see at least 2 transfer out now.
But 7 QBs on the roster next year is just ridiculous. When the second string QB Rivers is relegated to playing only in 3 games this year where he was allowed to throw two passes it tells the other QBs to pack up and move on to another school because they aren't playing QB at LSU.
LSU should have no more than 4 QBs on the roster at any given time under the Miles regime because any more than that and LSU is wasting time for many of these kids who are gifted QBs who would flourish at another school.
Now if the QB Coach leaves then Steve Kragthorpe is gone but you still have Rivers & Randall who need to make decisions about their future. It is unfair to these kids.

You realize Arant and Kragthorpe are walk ons right?

I literally had never heard of Arant before this post

This is a terrible post. 2 are walk ons, 2 graduate after next year.

Mett and Bolden are gone after next year, Kragthorpe and Aarnt are fricking walk-ons, Randall and Rivers will be juniors while Rettig and Jennings will be RS freshman. All will have plenty of time to play when their time comes.

What is even the point of this thread? What would make you feel better? To play the fricking walkons? Jesus baseball can't get here soon enough

Kragthorpe (Fr transfer) DNP
I couldn't believe I saw him dressed at the Florida game.

Agree with others, plus why post this before signing day? Wait.

quote:Even more ridiculous is the fact that this coach has not played any but the starter and Rivers (barely) in this entire past season. And will likely follow the same pattern for 2013. So when Mett graduates, we can expect a totally inexperienced, green as grass QB to pick up the pieces of any semblance of an LSU offense for 2014. Brilliant strategy. Now Saban will not know how to prepare.
7 QBs on the roster next year is just ridiculous

The OP is a typical rant post: totally misguided, sky-is-falling analysis spewed from the mouth of a mental midget.
If 2 QBs are walk-ons, they will not play. Simple. Unless, by some strange occurrence, the walk-ons turn out to be the Kurt Warners of college football, they will be tackling dummies for the third string defense, at best.
The 2 incoming freshmen (Jennings and Rettig) can easily redshirt and probably will. Mett and Bolden will be seniors and will be gone after next year leaving, *gasp!* 2 spots to be filled by, you guessed it, Jennings and Rettig. After next year, then, we have Rivers as the probable starter followed by Randall, Jennings, and Rettig in some order. The 2 walk-ons may either be gone by then or again only make the practice squad.
As for why Rivers hasn't seen much PT: Mett, at the beginning of the year, was as big a mess as a starting quarterback could be. So were his wideouts. In the few games we led enough to pull Mett, we kept him in to get gametime snaps, knowing full well he needed them. Rivers may get more PT this year if he once again beats Bolden and Randall out, since we have to hope that one more off season working out with the wideouts will get Mett into rhythm with the receiving corps. Hopefully that and an offseason of our o-line continuing to gel will put our offense over the hump and we may actually blow some teams out enough to put Rivers in.
I'm sure my reasonable analysis will be overlooked.
tl;dr

Agreed. 7 is just ridiculous. 4 is the right number.
Out of the 4, you obviously want one high end 4 star/5 star to be your starting QB. After that you pick up 'projects', QB's not highly rated out of high school but can/will develop into something with some coaching.
BUT, we don't have coaching. Maybe Kragthorpe does some, but I suspect Les reverses any progress Kragthorpe makes. This leads to ZERO development, if Mett goes down our season is basically over. No plan B. Plan A and B have always been to pound the ball up the middle, try and get 1 or 2 yards.
