You are being pedantic. Yes if you and only you wear a mask, it doesn't do much if others don't (obviously).
The message to wear masks however is not only going out to you, i.e. if many (vast majority) individually follow the advice, mask wearing has the potential to reduce spread.

It does reduce the likelihood if someone with the virus sneezes or coughs and you’re around. Also suppose you only got 30% of the virus as the mask blocked the other 70%, less virus in your body means you’ll recover faster. ...
