In our close games, did our offense ever successfully close out a game?

Outside of Ole Miss, I dont recall us ever being able to get the first down to run out the clock and end the game.

Auburn, SC, A&M, ALa, Ark and Clemson come to mind.

That and not having a top 50 offense for half a decade is just unacceptable.

Hum, SC we gave up the TD, got the ball with 1:41, 3 plays and 5 yards we were punting again to give them a chance to win.

A&M we couldn't close it either. At 1:17, 3 plays, 4 yards but took 1:07 off the clock. Still though, gave them a shot to win.

Jeeze, it's worse than I remember.

That is the irony. Whereas Les Miles was thinking that he was exactly in the position he wanted to be in when he kicks the field goal to go up by 11 at the end of the 3rd Quarter ... I knew that he was setting us up for more of the same and that 11 points would not be enough.

against Arky we got the ball with a lead and 5 mins left. went 78 yds in 11 plays (including a 3rd down conversion when no one thought we'd pass) and kicked a FG to get the lead to 7. closest I can think of to running out the clock.

The difference between 2011 and 2012 was the physical domination of 2011's team and being able to convert to Tds versus fg. This leads to closing out games in the second half. There were zero audibles to runs by Mett or anything that resembled understanding sec defenses. In his defense he had to break in a new line. Pj had trouble as a olinemen in calling schemes for example and others were not there to cover for him like those in 2011.
Just my take

You are correct. We were missing the killer instinct on offense this year.
