An 8-4 regular season would be real difficult to handle. 7-5 and I'll have to turn my back on him.

But I love Les now!

I think he is a good overall leader of the program, but a very average at best game day coach.

LSU could field a team as good as 2011 and it would be hard as hell to win the SEC next season.

LSU will have to win @Bama, v. aTm, split @UGA/vUF and then not stub their toe anywhere else on the schedule.

3 of those teams likely returning the best 3 QBs in the league this season.

That's a tall order no matter what.

I don't care about Arky or TAM. I don't especially like them, and I want LSU to win, but Bama is first and foremost. Lose to Bama again and the season is another disappointment.

I would abandon Miles if he were caught riding a motorcycle with a male 25 year old athletic department employee. But mediocre performance on the field would have to stretch beyond one year.

I definitely understand that. But it's possible for us to easily be the 3rd best team in the West next year with no clear resurgence in sight, and that's a tough pill to swallow. I hope I'm overreacting, but I truly feel we will not get where we want to be as a football program under Les. 4 losses next year will validate this thought IMO

So your criteria for a football coach is that he be personally likable to you, but not that he actually be a good football coach? Do you also worry that your accountant might be morally reprehensible but remain unconcerned if he can't add?

Nobody really saw it coming in 2010, and then his freshman class turned out to be full up with bad asses.

The 2012 and 2013 groups could be just as special, and then we're right back where everybody wants to be.

Winning a national championship? I really have my doubts on that one right now. I can't help but think 2007 was an anomaly mixed with a lot of luck in other teams' failures

And 2011 was equally crappy luck. There was 1 football team that could even stay on the field with LSU last year, LSU beat them on the road, and then got to play them again. 1 of about a dozen things could have gone differently, and LSU 2011 is talked about like UM 2001.

How do you know this? There were quite a lot of teams we didn't play. Given that Alabama had no problem passing all over the place in the NCG it's not hard to imagine Okie State also putting up some points. And the question of which late season offense actually shows up in that game rears it's head as well.

It's hard not to look at that NCG performance or even the first half against Georgia and thing "maybe this team wasn't really a worldbeater after all".

I agree with you there too, but at the same time that could have changed had we not been so inept on offense like we seem to inevitably be under Miles because either a) we beat them bad enough the first time they don't get a rematch or b) we win the rematch

Good point. Stanford or OSU would have had a decent chance at beating us IMO. I would have definitely liked my chances a lot more against them, but it's hard to tell how much credit Bama's D deserves for completely and utterly shutting down our offense

LSU throttled the Pac and BE champs. Those BE champs run the exact same offense that Okie State runs. I'm confident that that Defense was just that good.

Georgia and Arkansas were good teams, and LSU beat them to a pulp. LSU went to Tuscaloosa and won against that admittedly GREAT Alabama team.

Any loss in which we score less than 20 pts

WVU doesn't run the same offense that Okie State does. Holgorsen and Gundy are both spread guys, but they run them differently. Okie State was also a better team than WVU that year. WVU was the BE co-champs and lost to Syracuse (by the same margin that they lost to us) and Louisville. Oregon were only Pac-12 champs because USC was ineligible. They lost to USC in the regular season but avoided them in the Pac-12 championship.

Alabama was a great team, and they proved it by stomping us into the dirt on 1-9. They were probably a better team in the first meeting too, they just couldn't kick a field goal to save their lives.

That LSU team was good, but they weren't even the best team in their division so it's pretty silly to assume they were automatically the second best team in the country.

So another UF circa 2012 type game and you're done? Might as well go ahead and get rid of the Miles koolaid now then

There's a good deal more evidence that they were the second best team in the country than that they weren't.

The way they dominated opponents. The big road and neutral site games they won.

They beat two absolute extremes as far as style in Bama and UO.

The 2nd best team in the country doesn't lose to anyone 21-0. Sorry. That loss overshadows everything else that happened that season and casts doubt on it. They were an absolutely dominant defense and special teams monster with a pedestrian offense. That was enough to beat a some good teams, but they weren't perfect and it's not hard to think that Alabama isn't the only team that could have exploited the flaws.
