A guy at work used to swear by a sausage called Boudin. My kids are flying to New Orleans for NYE. Where in NO is recommended to buy a case or two & which types/flavors should I have them go after?
Any help would be appreciated.

Tell them to ride up to Gonzales to get some decent boudin. Thats the closest I know of for decent boudin from NOLA. If he can go to Scott (near Lafayette) he would hit the mother lode of the best there is.
If he can't leave the city the local grocers should carry Richard's or Manda's or Poche's that are in the sausage section. Those are nowhere near the quality of the ones he could get north and west of NOLA but do OK in a pinch on the grill.
Flavors? No different flavors. Just different tastes depending on who made it. I guess maybe you could get some smoked boudin and that would be different.

Forget it and let the kids have one less thing to worry about. Instead, mail-order some good stuff from Cajun country. It'll be better for everyone.

Well I reckon you are right. I'm sure they have better things to do during first trip there than be running around grocers for dad. Thanks for the input & Happy New Year!

I'm coming to NOLA tomorrow, and I have pack
(1 pound links) from Billy's in Scott, La.
It's some of the best there is, I'll give it to you if you want it, let me know
It's just a pound, but it's some of the best

I really appreciate the gesture. However I agree with the poster above. I will let the kids do their own thing & order it online.
Last question. The guy I worked with said he boiled it which seems very unappetizing. Better to fry, grill or my expertise, smoke them?

You can steam it in a rice cooker to try and duplicate the way you'd get it hot in the store, or throw it on the pit for a smoked flavor.

If you decide to go this route be very careful, there is a fine line between a meal and a disaster.
