Watched it last night. Waltz is good but nothing compared to IB. I don't think any awards should be expected. Foxx and Dicaprio stole the show IMO. Leo really brought his A game and looked like he was enjoying the opportunity to go outside of his box a little. I haven't seen as many movies this year but I'd think Foxx certainly deserves a nomination for best lead and Dicaprio should be one of the front-runners for best supporting actor. Still just too early to say where this will rank among Tarantino movies but I'm guessing it will end up a step below the QT classics (PF, RD, IB) but still be a classic, if that makes sense. It's no knock on a movie to say it's the fourth or fifth best Tarantino movie.

I watched it last night and loved it from start to finish. It's going to be one of them movies that each time you watch it will get better and better.

Exactly. people get mad when I tell them it;s at the bottom of the QT totem pole, and I'm like come on, it's still a good movie

ehhh that was one of my favorite scenes but probably because of Leo's performance
or maybe I'm just dumb

I dug it. I just didn't get why sawed that piece of the skull off. I know he did it to show them the phrenology bumps, but you'd think he would've sawed the piece off previously to that night's dinner.

Did not think it was that great.

to me, it was on par with IB as my fav films by QT. there were a lot of similarities i saw between the 2 films, but it worked out.
the acting in the film was superb all the way around.
will be seeing again

Just watched it. Loved it, and I don't agree with many of the criticisms it has received in this thread. The only thing the movie was lacking, IMO, was a truly great, signature scene. PF had a ton (damn near half the movie has been parodied by shows like the Simpsons), Basterds had the intro (top 5 movie scene of all time, IMO), the bar scene, and the lunch scene. RD had the intro about tipping. Kill Bill 2 had Bill's speech the first time Beatrice sees her daughter with him. Jackie Brown had Deniro's character buttfricking Fonda's. If you start naming Tarentino's best scenes, you probably don't get to a Django scene until the 10-15 range, and at that point, I don't even know what scene it would be.
Also, an interesting tidbit from IMDB. Apparently, when Leo smashed his hand on the table during the skull scene, the bleeding was real/unscripted, he just went on. If true, how boss was the part where he wiped his real blood on the actress's face? The scene was also supposedly done in one take.
My rankings:
Basterds
Pulp Fiction
Reservoir Dogs
Django
Kill Bill 2
Jackie Brown
Kill Bill 1
Death Proof

Wow, how disappointing. I liked it ok, but the praise is beyond ridiculous.

Yeah, it sucks when people like something, and it's different from my opinion.

yeah I'm really upset about that.

Agreed. I just got back from it yesterday. I like the movie a lot up until the shootouts at Candieland started. It all just seemed too much. I wasn't expecting to see Machete at the end.
The part when Django shot Leo's sister from upstairs with a pistol and it blew her sideways out of the room, was that an homage to some western that I haven't seen or was it really that ridiculous? I laughed.

My feeling exactly. Also, I really don't mind the n word, but Tarantino way over does it. It takes me out of the movie because its seems as if he had the intention to see how many times his characters could say the n word

that didn't really bother me. I probably notice it a lot more watching old episodes of Chappelle Show

Not like offended, it just didn't come off natural alot of times.

Wasn't the best movie of the year, but definately the most entertaining. Wasn't expecting Django to be "historically accurate" just a fun time.
It delivered.

just got back from Django and I liked it, thought it dragged on and didn't land on it's proper ending point. Not better than IB, IMO.

I saw this today. Decent film, but I left rather disappointed considering all the hype. Leo and Samuel L. were really great in their roles. Foxx and Waltz were good. Everybody else was serviceable. My primary problem besides how incredibly long and drawn-out it is (sorry, that story doesn't need 2 hrs 40 min to be told well) is that it really left me with any memorable moments like previous Tarantino films.
I'd give it a 7/10. Was shot really well that's for sure. No Oscar consideration from me though.

If not for Leo and waltz, no one is praising this movie
