ESPN has suspended commentator Rob Parker for 30 days for comments he made about Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III during a Dec. 13 episode of "First Take". Parker The suspension comes one day after Parker issued an apology on his Twitter account. On the show, he was discussing Griffin's answer to a question about his role as an African-American quarterback and questioned Griffin's "blackness," citing that the player has a white fiancee and is rumored to be Republican as among his reasons.
Among his comments, Parker, who is black, said: "Is he a brother or a cornball brother?" In his apology, Parker said he reached out to Griffin's agent with the hope of apologizing to Griffin directly. "I blew it and I'm sincerely sorry," Parker posted on Twitter. "I completely understand how the issue of race in sports is a sensitive one and needs to be handled with great care." ESPN issued a statement announcing the suspension. "Our review of the preparation for the show and the re-air has established that mistakes both in judgment and communication were made," said Marcia Keegan, vice president of production for ESPN who oversees "First Take".
"As a direct result, clearly inappropriate content was aired and then re-aired without editing. Both were errors on our part. To address this, we have enhanced the editorial oversight of the show and have taken appropriate disciplinary measures with the personnel responsible for these failures. "We will continue to discuss important issues in sports on First Take, including race. Debate is an integral part of sports and we will continue to engage in it on First Take. However, we believe what we have learned here and the steps we have taken will help us do all that better."

Limbaugh's 30 days has been up.

Piece of crap should be fired. Hate to state the obvious but if this was a reverse situation.. ie if Rob Parker was white, he would be fired, gone, terminated.

idk why people think he'll change...he always has been and always will be a racist piece of shite

This makes me question if they actually know what sports are.

Limbaugh's white, and called a black quarterback overrated.
Parker's black and called a black quarterback white.
Clearly not the same thing.

I actually saw that episode and thought to my self if he was white his arse would be done. Too sensitive of a subject, even for a black man I guess.

No joke. I did not realize during halftime the teams were having a spirited back and forth session of verbal jousting.

so it's ok to have black on black crime at ESPN, but any white comments about black athletes get you permabanned.

Limbaugh was fired because he was already polarizing. He was already pigeon-holed as a "certain person" by the liberal media. He had un-PC baggage.
If any other regular joe white commentator had said what Limbaugh said, he wouldn't have been fired. Controversy is good for ratings...but Limbaugh was too controversial because of his history.

Keep telling yourself that.

Meanwhile, in his comfy home, Stephen A. Smith leans back in his reclining chair and begins to laugh histerically!

bullshite. He called out the media (which ESPN is a part of) for trying to being too eager to celebrate a black quarterback and jumping the gun on McNab by praising him for being a much better quarterback than he was. Nothing Limbaugh said was racist, and it wasn't a knock against any black athlete anywhere - it was, however, a knock against the media for trying to create a story that didn't exist.

Unquestionably, This!

Was Limbaugh incorrect in his assessment after its all been said and done?

Before this thread gets too far in the weeds with this Limbaugh BS, can we focus on the fact that most peoples primary source of sports news and opinion believes that "debate is an intgral part of sports".

HIndsight is 20-20 though.
However, I do remeber when Rush said, one of the other black analysts (Jackson, Deon, Irvin, cant't remeber which one) said that he has a point. Like he was agreeing to an extent on what he was trying to convey.

Ultimately it's up to the employers to fire whoever they want, so I respect their decisions.
It just pisses me off that these guys (Parker, Limbaugh, etc) even bring up race in the first place. They do it not because they actually have an opinion, but to get ratings and to stir the pot.
What is even more annoying and more telling about our society is that this strategy works.
