Thinking about installing a chip on my 2005 dodge Cummins engine to increase mileage.
Anybody do this and will it help?
if so , what brand and what is the cost?
thanks

Check out one of the Cummins forums and they'll be able to get you pointed in the right direction. Last I recall Smarty was one of the best for a Cummins.

I got a 02 cummins. Put a super chip programmer. Made big difference. No clue how much hp or torque. But feels like much more.

Nowadays, people put programmers instead of chips. Chips only have one program, and programmers can have an unlimited amount for different applications. You can also monitor engine temps, flow rates, etc from a programmer
I talked to a guy with an 05 dodge who had a programmer and straight pipe on his truck a while back. He claimed he was getting around 20mpg stock. No idea if that was the truth or not, but my mpg on my 08 F250 went from 11 to 23mpg on the highway
With the Cummins, you should beef up your tranny, no pun intended. I was told that they make so much low end torque, it would be hard for any stock transmission to handle them. Don't do like I did and put things off because of money. You will regret it
