I have a 1970's vintage Colt AR15 A1. When cycling .223 Remington, Federal or Winchester hunting rounds thru it, the projectile becomes depressed almost entirely into the cartridge. This does not occur when using 5.56 full metal jacket military type rounds. What causes this and why does it occur only when using hunting rounds?

Are you using hollow or soft points?
I'm just taking a stab at it, but it might be that the tips of the projectile are getting hung up on the feed ramp?
