Mil-spec is really just a minimum standard, Carpenter 158 bolts are mil-spec and generally are wonderful bolts. I believe LMT and maybe KAC uses a different material called Aermet 100 which is supposed to be 50% tougher than C158 bolts. BCM uses C158 steel and those are really popular, but BCM also has very strict QC on everything they produce so that adds to the package.

I'd also like to throw out a quick endorsement pertaining to my weekend project. I installed some Mega triggers on my rifles. Have yet to fire them but all preliminary tests point to them being the best 60 bucks I've spent on my AR's.

They claim it gets down to 4.5lbs with regular milspec components. I don't have a gauge, so can't vouch for that. It has a crazy crisp break though, and eliminates all over travel.
ETA: forgot to mention, if anyone has been looking into these things, stonefire arms and ranier both have them for 30-40 bucks cheaper than everywhere else for some reason. I had been wanting to try them for awhile, so when I saw that price drop I jumped on it. Also stonefire's shipping is infinitely better than rainier, I received them in 2 days. shite from rainier takes a week or more usually.

Interested to hear how you like them. I am one fcg away from having replaced all of mine with the ALG ACT groups. They are the lower end of a milspec pull (around 5.5lb), but are consistent and crisp.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a really light weight AR? I want to either buy or build a AR for my SO that is as lightweight as possible (within reason).

Proof Research. Try and find someone who uses their AR barrels.

So whats the cheapest improvement on a trigger I can get? Mine on a PSA lower is quite crisp but very heavy.

If you're perfectly happy with the creep and over travel, and only want to lighten the pull, probably can't beat the JP spring kit LINK

I read those are just as heavy as mil spec.

Can I drop those in myself?

They are (well on the lower end of milspec). The springs have been known to cause light strikes. Unless you are upgrading the entire fcg to JP. What's the intended use of the rifle you're upgrading? Why the need for a lighter pull? Is this rig for precision or competition?

I want faster mag dumps
(also just use to lighter triggers)
Should I just save up for a Geissele trigger?

JP springs can be can picky with ammo. I've read a lot about folks using the stock hammer spring, and not having problems with them. If your dead set on the lighter pull, then I would give the JP springs a try before throwing down $200 on the trigger. Just don't be suprised to have a light strike every now and then.
