Because the academic administrators clearly don't know how to raise and manage their money, while the athletic administrators do. That's part of why the academic side is underwater and the athletic side is booming.

I am sorry, but I disagree with this position. You cant administrate around 30% budget cuts and maintain or improve performance. Certainly there is waste at LSU, just like every where, but the cuts keep coming and the Universities mission is hindered.

The only reason the Athletic Department makes money is because the football team is highly successful. If the football team falls into mediocrity then all the profits will disappear.

I am an LSU alumni, and I am glad LSU Athletics are strong. I am glad the AD is profitable. I wish the AD didnt have to give any money to the University. What frustrates me is that we have all these LSU fans, all this attendance at games, all this purchase of LSU shirts and hats and junk (which goes to the AD I guess), but at the same time the University gets strangled. Rather than defending this institution they are supposed to love, the response is: "Big government is bad. LSU is wasteful. LSU sucks anyway. Do more with less".

I know there is nothing most of you can do about it. But many or perhaps most of the posters in this thread seem happy that the University is being cut, and I cannot comprehend how that can be. I guess is political orthodoxy; where its more important to cut cigarette taxes than fund education. Geaux Tigers.

You don't think that poor development and management by the academic administration is even part of the problem? That's all I am saying here, and I speak from very recent, very personal experience.

I agree with virtually everything else you wrote, BTW.
