I'd probably rather a recurve

Look here. I'm not some kind of damn hippy minimalist. I like technology and what it affords human beings.

Once you start bow hunting it is all over with. I've pretty much given up gun hunting. I started off with a mid level Hoyt and learned lot about shooting and form. Swapped to a Bowtech Destroyer earlier this year and wish I would have done it sooner. Very smooth shooting, fast, and IMO quiet on release. Whatever you do don't skimp on a sight. I recommend Spot Hogg.

I've had a diamond forever and love mine. But it really comes down to how the bow feels to you IMO. Most new bows are all pretty good these days. JJJ and I were talking about recurves yesterday. I need a new challenge deer hunting. Although it will probably be a while before I hunt with one bc I wanna be super confident so I don't get blasted for crippling a deer with it.

I hunted with my recurve one year, didn't shoot at a deer, though.
The next year I didn't put in as much practice, and by the time October came, I was disgusted and reached back for the compound.
I will make the switch again one day, though.

BowTech no doubt. Best bow on the market. They used to just be the fastes but now they are as smooth as a Matthews.
Also it supports my brothers business. He designs a lot of their bows and builds all the BowTech and Diamond bows.

Yeah, this dude on LAsportsman is selling his a Diamond BowTech for $350. Hard case, dozen new arrows, sling, and pendulum sight (don't even know WTF this is). Seems legit...hoping to find a 'brand' and sit/wait on a good deal to come around.
Diamond and BowTech are not the same. Diamond is made by BowTech. Its like a Lexus and Toyota thing. BowTech is the much nicer and expensive version. BowTech's are about as expensive as a bow as you can buy.
A pro shop is going to carry mostly Hoyt, BowTech and Matthews. Bass Pro and Academy are going to carry Diamond and Bear, Parker ect.

That's all my family used to use when I was a kid. I shot a few competitions but never hunted with one. My dad has killed an antelope, bear and elk with a recurve. He's switched to compound in the last 10-15 years but you can kill most anything with one of you are a dang good hunter. I want one just to target shoot with. Doubt I'd be good enough to kill anything with.

I like G5.....but as others have stated do research and determine what fits you best

My wife asked me the other day if I was going to gun hunt at all this year. I told her no, it doesn't even appeal to me anymore.
And I'm with the guy above me, we can all tell you whichbw is the best but find you a good LOCAL deal/shop and go.shoot one or two of each brand. I think Spillway Sportsman is having a sale this weekend, 40% off any compound bow when you buy your accessories there. Its where I bought mine and I know the service is pretty good.
