I never sad he was the best.
I said he is a LSU sports legend.
The guy makes LSU football and baseball more exciting and has done so for past 25 years.
Sorry if you suck that bad as a fan whereas you can't appreciate the man.

There's a reason for that. Quality control.

Here is a list of things that your post is NOT:
1) Cutting edge
2) Hilarious
3) Original
4) Remotely humorous.

Is the man perfect? Hell no.

Happy late bday JH, proud to have you.

Believe or not Paul Finebaum said Hawthorne is the best announcer in the SEC

Sit in the stands at a baseball game and listen to Hawthorne call the game. It really opens your eyes to how bad his play calling is when you can see the play in front of you. The number of "bloop singles" that were in the outfield etc...is a lot.
I remember when he had an epic meltdown once during a double switch when he was have a mini seizure about how LSU wasn't going to have a catcher in the game - like Skip Bertman was new to the whole idea of a double switch. Next inning Hawthorne came out and said he didn't understand what happened...no kidding lol.
If you aren't actually watching the game in person or on TV while listening to Hawthorne he's not bad. He makes the game exciting and moving along, just his facts are not always facts.

And what does your feeling the need to insult the man in a "Happy Birthday Jim Hawthorne" thread make you?

He may not be the best but he is one of the most entertaining. Makes comments that very few other announcers have the nerve to make. Brings enthusiasm and excitement in his voice even after all these years. Here's to you Jim. Many more!

You know how I know which Tiger fans are not also Saints fans? The ones who think Hawthorne is the best announcer, college or pro, when we have Jim Henderson calling the Saints games in the same market.
I agree with the notion that Hawthorne brings excitement to the games he calls. But he is also unbearably negative every time LSU makes a mistake or a bad play.
But worse than that, is that he is factually off by a country mile! If you are watchng a game and also listening to Hawthorne call the game, you often cannot believe you are watching the same game that he is calling.
If you are a big X's and O's and detail oriented type of fan, then Hawthorne is really tough to listen too. If you're just a rah-rah tell us the final outcome, the details don't matter kind of fan, I can see how you think Hawthorne is wonderful.
Mark my words, when Hawthorne finally (mercifully) retires, the next LSU announcer will be the next guy to be considered "one of a kind" by Tiger fans, and "irreplaceable".
If you don't believe me, you're probably too young to remember Jim Ferguson.

Happy Burthday Jim!!
I was born in 1981 so my entire memory of LSU sports radio has been JH. While not the best he is entertaining and LSU sports on the radio would not be the same without him. One of my first LSU sports memories is also my favorite, the come from behind victory against aTm in the regionals. I think '88 or '89
