HOW THE FRICK DID I MISS THERE WAS AN FF14 THREAD ON THE GB!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
anyways, I started 14 after they started "fixing" stuff, I was in the beta for the original game and decided I would never play it (I was a hardcore ff11 player) because it was absolutely awful.
Now, that being said, towards the last part of the life cycle, before the servers went off for ARR (the new "reboot) this game was not just playable, it was actually a lot of fun. It still had a lot of bugs in it, but that was because they were working with a completely buggy game engine and servers.. so they worked with what they got, and even though what they were working with was trash, they still made it a lot of fun.
Fun enough that I leveled Warrior, Monk, Paladin and Bard to 50, as well as Goldsmith, Blacksmith, and Carpenter to 50 as well.. all within 6 months.
Also, sic's roomate played in the alpha, I'll get him to comment about it sometime later today, but please come join us blitzed, would be fun! anyone else is welcome as well!

I believe it will let you cross platform. Didn't 11 do that?

that's fine, it's cross-platform. You will actually be playing with people on PC, it's how XI worked, it's how this game will work.

As much as I love FF, this will be a no-go. I'm not big on MMOs.

Are any of the latest versions of FF any good at all? I haven't played since SNES, mainly bc I haven't heard great things. Tried the demo for one. Not impressed.

it really depends on your style of play. 14 and 11 are MMOs, so you should probably like that type of game, or be an extreme RPGer before playing.
13 and 13-2 were considered some of the worst in the series, but they are much more fast pace and waaaay less turn base than the older iterations.
12 was a completely change of pace, it played a lot like an MMO, but was a single player campaign, and from what I hear, was one of the more fun in the series, just a lot of people didn't end up liking it because of the change in gameplay.
10 was ok, was one of the weakest because of the voice acting, but was extremely fun as well, and blitzball was AWESOME.
7,8, and 9 were good, depending on who you ask, someone's favorite in that series is going to be different, all of them stuck with the turn base system though, and were some of the better FF games to come out.. ever.
6 is still my favorite.

So based on your post, I won't be getting any of them

Ive never played MMO, but i remember really wishing i had a playstation when 11 came out. I think it would be fun if it turns out to be a good game and then having a crew to play with.

They are fun, but I can never put the time in it takes to really get somewhere in these games.

Could we kill other players?

Final Fantasy MMOs are different than most MMOs. There are no "pvp" servers.. but instead they give you "event oriented pvp."
Basically there is always some kind of a system in place that allows you to do "capture the flag" or "storm the castle" or something along those lines type "pvp," but it's never on 100% of the time. They did an ok of it in XI, but they are focusing on it a lot (have said so in many interviews) for the re-release of XIV.

So its just running with your crew, grinding, building, and fighting bosses mostly?

Why do they have to make it an online game?
For the micro transactions. It is the way of the future to make money.

Are you saying it's not fun anymore or do you still like it? How is it with time sink? I remember when 14 was first being advertised they made it sound like leveling wouldn't be a chore like it was in 11.
