Each one of these teams has had a legitimate chance to win the NC every year for the last few seasons.

So the location of the BCS bowl that LSU plays in matters? 2 were national Championships...are you implying that LSU should not have been selected to those and only got in because the game was in Louisiana? And last time I checked the Sugar Bowl has ties to the SEC Champion unless they are in the NCG.
Not sure if you are trying to be funny with this comment or if you are that stupid.

Thank God. You never know on this website. There are more than a handful of people on this website that would say that and actually mean it.

I generally agree with this. Except Oregon is the only one on this list that hasn't proved they can win the crystal football.

Last season was the only season I give LSU credit for being a top 2-3 dominant team.
You know, I love that we all have the freedom to voice our own opinions in this great country, but yours really isn't worth a wooden nickel.
LSU's record against top-25 and top-10 opponents speaks for itself, as does our bowl record. If LSU isn't a top 5 team over the past 10 years, there is no top 5.

A good team, but far from dominant. Say what you want about the 2008 National Title (2 losses). Last season was the only season I give LSU credit for being a top 2-3 dominant team.
Here's a little fun fact for you: if any other team in the nation beat Ohio State in that game, they also would have had at least 2 losses, and would have also played about half as many ranked teams.

I agree Wade. Same argument can be said for teams like Oklahoma and Ohio State. They have been great teams but get bashed when they lose the National Title. Great records speak for itself whether you win it all or not.

congratulations, of all the lists so far, yours is the worst!

Pot calling the kettle black.
You keep saying "recently" but then invoke the "last 10 years"...which is it? Because last 10 year and omitting SC is absolutely disingenuous and frankly retarded.
From 2002-2008:
Consecutive BCS bowl appearances: 7 FBS (I-A) record
BCS bowl wins: 6 FBS (I-A) record
Winning 4 Rose Bowls and 2 Orange Bowls by an average score of 40-18.
From 2002-2008 USC was 10-2 vs. Top 10 opponents.
7 Straight Conference Titles
Weeks at #1 in AP poll: 33 (NCAA record)
Consecutive 11 win seasons: 7 (NCAA record)
In 8 years, USC lost only one game by more than seven points.
In 2009, USC was named “Team of the Decade” by both CBSSports.com and Football.com, as well as the “Program of the Decade” by SI.com, plus was No. 1 in CollegeFootballNews.com’s “5-Year Program Rankings”

I actually wasn't talking to you.
How many games did USC have to forfeit in that period of time? Yeah, they were awesome, but if they had to forfeit a couple seasons because they were paying players, that hurts.

Can't it be both? Any reasonable look at strongest program would look at recent history and current strength. LSU has a great track record over the past 10 or last 5 year look back, is in the top ten this year, is a year removed from a national title game, and has no mitigating reason to think the relative level of success will not continue.
USC's situation, in this context, is totally different. They look great in the 10 year look back and pretty good in the 5 year look back, but they are coming off a mediocre year, are still under NCAA sanction which will continue to affect the team's roster depth, and the architect of the program's success is now chilling in Seattle.
When looking at the original question "What are the 5 best CFB programs right now?", I see no reason why ranking LSU and not USC is so contrary, even when using historical data.

5 is a nice round number but it probably isn't the right question.
It'd be easier to look at the last 5-10 years and point out the programs that have consistently been on another level.
LSU
Bama
Florida
Oregon
USC
Oklahoma
Ohio State
..........Texas?

ESPN kinda waded in on this topic. Listing the top jobs (which I correlate as being top programs)
1) Texas - "When they hand you the coaching keys to the Longhorns' football program, you get the most expensive car on the lot."
2) Notre Dame - "has its own TV network, a national recruiting network, 125 years of football tradition and facilities that rival or exceed those of its peers. The diploma means something, too."
3) Bama - "No athletic department spends more on its football program ($36.9 million in '11) than Alabama. You are given every tool in the box to win."
4) LSU - "Surprised? Don't be."
5) Michigan/Ohio State - "Huge fan bases? Check marks for both. Huge recruiting bases? Check marks for both. Huge national exposure? Check marks for both."
6) Fla - "Jeremy Foley? He basically spends every waking moment trying to figure out how to help his coaches win. You need better facilities? He'll do everything he can to make it happen. You need an increased budget for recruiting? For assistant coaches? For support staff? For whatever? Talk to Foley. And did I mention there are about a gajillion quality recruits in the state?
Also - USC, Oklahoma, Georgia, Oregon
