quote:

"After a touchdown or field goal, instead of kicking off, a team would get the ball on its own 30-yard line, where it's fourth and 15," TIME's Sean Gregory writes. "The options are either to go for it and try to retain possession or punt. If you go for it and fall short, of course, the opposing team would take over with good field position. In essence, a punt replaces the kickoffs."

Why not at the 20 and make it 1st and 10 for the scoring team.

Remember that thread that asked what will be the thing that would make you stop watching football? Well, this is it.

When is someone going get this ASSCLOWN Goodell out of the Commissioner's chair? I'm all for making football as safe as possible but he's completely changing the game.

Clicked the link. Cheer girl for the day. Figured I'd post, one of the correct things that's involved in the game today.

Yeah this will never work. It would destroy the game. Nothing like the roar of the opening kickoff and the players charging down the field and clashing that first time to start the battle.

I don't care whether folks like the rule or not, but you're off your rocker if you think this would destroy the game.

Special teams is another very exciting element of football.

This is pathetic.

Instead of a kickoff, it's a punt from the 30. Can someone dig up the stats on the usual starting position after a punt from the 30?

With this rule one of the best plays/ most exciting plays in sports, the the onsides kick, is eliminated from football and replaced with a 4th and 15. Can someone dig up the stats on 4th and long v. Onsides kick conversion percentage?

this would have been the best time for Vince to have introduced the XFL.

I would rather that than watching kickers kick it out of the back of the endzone.

Does anyone have an actual statistic on what percentage of injuries in the NFL occur on kickoff returns? Do we even truly know that injuries are more likely to occur in a kickoff than any other types of plays in the NFL?

While I think it would hurt the game of football to do this, I would agree that it would move along just fine if the kickoff were to be eliminated.

That having been said, if they do eliminate it, they had better have a really damn good reason for it. This move would alter the game in some form in every aspect one could think of. It would alter game strategy, clock management, game decision making, roster size and roster management, player positions, players' jobs, coaches' jobs, etc. If they do this, they better fricking have a good reason for it.
