The Bielema hire a day later....

starting to think it's a good hire. Yesterday I was dang near devastated but the longer I think on it the more I like it.
I haven't disclosed this info yet but I'm a HS offensive coordinator in Arkansas and would like to think I know the game a little bit. What I have seen from his offense at Wisconsin is the ability to run it when they want to or have to. They do a good job of giving the QB a passing game they can handle which may be a big key for us next year regardless of who the QB is.
I would not be a bit surprised to see Brandon Mitchell back at QB in a similar role that Russell Wilson played for Wisky in 2011. Good hire JL... time will tell if it' a great hire.

So, you've talked yourself into it?
ETA: I thought it was a good hire yesterday.
Source: myself.

i liked it yesterday- one big reason it was over and the name wasn't gus.
but i think there are a lot of hog fans that feel like you- took a minute to sink in but are pretty good with it now.
and go hogs!

Not a good pic of the new coaches wife, but I appreciate the talent Arky is bringing in as far as coaches wives go.

3 years.....3 years....Bielema is fired and paid his buyout.

You all do realize he won the crappy big 10 with a Ohio state on probation and not eligible for the championship game? Right
He will not be able to recruit Texas and get those 300 lb linebackers like wisky has unless he brings them with them, I think he bailed on wisky before Michigan and osu get back going. This will be an interesting experiment but like it or not Jeff long not there then we get Gus and that is the better hire we could have made. Gus will all show u non believers what he can do next season

I think the roster is built out a little better for his style of football than most of us realize. If you look at the number of players that didn't quite "fit" the Petrino offense, I think quite a few may be better suited to BB's scheme. IE TE Austin Tate, FB Small and Walker. I know we are still WR heavy but I'm sure his schemes will allow for some multiple WR looks when the situation presents itself. Some of the O-Linemen that we couldn't figure out their lack of playing time will hopefully now be able to fit his run schemes better.... like Brey Cook for one.

Hopefully this prediction will play out the same way some of the predictions about Petrino did:
"Petrino to Arkansas? Haha - he'll leave in a year. 2 tops."

His style of football is similar to LSU. Big line and running the football.

Piney Hill Rooters got a top knotch ball coach! Quit doubting your AD and get on the "Bielema Bulldozer"! He knows how to coach the LOS and is multiple enough on offense to score points. LSU and Bama run, stop the run and have depth on the LOS. Thats the secret in the SEC west! thats what others have to do to get to Atlanta!

I think your bigger hope is that he adapts to the talent.
When he first came to Wis that team was built to be a pound it team so he kept going in that direction.
As an Arky fan I would hope that he would realize what Arky has and get a OC that throws the ball.
If he insists on "old man football" then he will be Merlin 2.0. Beat the lower teams, get raped the more talented and uptempo teams.

for the record Nutt put quite a few Arkansas offensive lineman in the NFL and the ability to control the offensive line of scrimmage was NEVER his downfall.
Arkansas has always and will always lag behind if we don't improve on our defensive line play. Coach will get offensive players.

Point taken ChapelTiger. I think you and I hashed that out at lunch yesterday already.
The blueprint for success in the SECW has been clearly drawn out and it appears we have a guy who can shape the Hogs into that mold.

I think Bielema is a fine hire. His offense can be adapted to quickly. He can hire the right assistants to be able to recruit well enough. He's proven he can win. It's not a total reclamation project as some are making it out to be.
Arkansas' record last year was more indicative of the turmoil surrounding the program, than it was the program's potential under a stable coach.
