You are coming up with all these reasons why Pelicans isnt a good name when it really just boils down to you not thinking its "cool".

Thank you, and they are very common around New Orleans. I actually have a pic of one while driving over the causeway. Would see them gliding over the lake, sitting on posts, etc. Pretty site.
