According to ESPN insider its is Kriby Smart and they are nearing a deal. Interesting..

According to insiders in Tuscaloosa and in Auburn, Kirby Smart is no longer in the running for the job. The hang up was over Pat Dye's role in the program. Smart wanted what Saban has in T-Town - total control. They wouldn't give it to him.

Auburn has a real chance to be a player, but they hire a puppet instead. What a fricking shithouse of an athletic department.
Smart is not only from their rival and nothing more than a puppet, but he runs the 3-4. That means they will have to go head to head in recruiting the limited players with ability to run the 3-4 with Bama. Not to mention UGA and UF who is trying to go to the 3-4. FAIL.
Ask Tennessee how hiring a bama assistant to do something important worked out.

Dooley was shite as a HC, we don't know what Smart is.. could easily be the next Muschamp or Dooley nobody has a clue. Saban has wanted him to stick around for a while, he probably has a good reason for that.

I think he will end up being a really good coach. I don't think, however, that Auburn is in a position to take a flyer on someone that is inexperienced when a guy like Petrino is available.
