I will freely admit that I just "dont get" this genre

I dont get the RPG's, the movies, the novels, LARPing, etc.

I do not understand the appeal.

I don't hate on it, but I just don't get it

The Hobbit and LOTR are pretty accessible to everyone. I don't consider it "high" fantasy or whatever they call it.

just a heads up, RPGs, Larping, and books like LOTR are all completely different from one another.

Larpers to the fantasy genre can be compared to prof bowlers in the sporting genre...

Same.

To outsiders, LOTR is fine - interesting enough - but nothing epic. The plot is simple, spelled out from the beginning and then it's...Wizard of Oz...or Alice in Wonderland...lets watch all the strange creatures/fighting/fairies they encounter along the way the JT Hobbit-brick road.

...to keep viewers interested about the endless walking.
