Yeah, I tried to ignore his original statement. Of course people turn down bowls for hopes of better. All the time.
Teams like La Tech turn down bowls all of the time in hopes of a better bowl? Not so fast my friend. That school coming out of the WAC can't really afford to sample the menu.
And now, they're sitting at home.

I have no inside info...nor do I care one way or the other...but based on what I have read, they think Shreveport is a big shite-hole and didn't want to go back. They played A$M there earlier this year and didn't like the field/general area of the stadium and didn't have a good experience there.
LaTech probably plays one game there a semester. Usually against larger schools when LaTech is the home team.

NOLA media reported saying LT was in-line to
get an invite to the Liberty Bowl before No. Illinois screwed everything up
and Oklahoma knocked all the temas down a notch. Independence Bowl
had offered & wanted an answer earlier but LT was holding out for the
Liberty.
This leads me to believe that the LT AD thought he had a really good chance of getting Liberty bid. Again, would you have made a different decision?

The extra practices that you get with a bowl game is crucial to a successful season next year.

Probably has been broached, but would it be a net loss for La Tech to play in the Indy Bowl? Not saying this was the reason to stay home, but I know several teams har talked about how the payout for bowl games usually results in a net loss when all the bills are paid and checks are handed out.
Just wondering if cost v reward was too far te other way for the Indy bowl itself.

But I thought Kent State would have gone in Northern Illinois' place.

- Was primary driver not to play ULM?
This appears to be the case. From a source on here that would be in the know:
quote:
I don't have a dog is this ULM v. tech back in forth, but I will call out factual misinformation when I know it is false. I have no idea what was being said "around campus" as I'm not a student, or live in Ruston and i'm in my 40s. The fact is that Bruce (Tech AD) got a dressing down from the commissioners of both the WAC and CUSA for certain comments to bowl officials (and just not the I-bowl). Further, Tech wanted in I-Bowl on Thursday night, no matter the opponent.
Good luck to Tech to the bowl game they do get into, but the AD PO'd some people and it will bite him in the future and could hurt Tech, which I don't want see for the sake of the players and the students.
quote:
To sassyav regarding where I got my information and you called me out over it. Now that it's over, I can now tell you and the other Tech fans that my information is first hand because I serve on a Bowl Selection Committee. There were statements made on the MSB by Tech fans that were completely not true and I tried to tell you that. I feel horrible for the Seniors on the team. The egos of a few people in Ruston caused this and there was no reason for that. I have been a member of TD for a long time and don't post much. However, I will not hesitate to post when I see statements that are outright false, which I saw last night. Again, I feel horrible for the Players, they deserve much better from the AD.

U lose money on not seling tickets and travel costs
They would have sold their allotment. The stadium would have been full, and they dont have to fly several hundred people and have multinight hotel stays

I can see your line of thinking, but I just don't think that when you are La Tech, at this stage of program development, that you can gamble that much.

They've only played like 3 regular season games here in the past 10 years.

I've heard this more than once and find it ridiculous. We are talking about La Tech! .....not some power house. They have been to 4 bowl games...in the last 35 years. To say they have "nothing to gain" by playing in any bowl is just stupid.
nothing more to say

Dude...if you know the history of tech's dodging of ulm.....it will take all of two seconds to dismiss the spin bullshite about expecting a better bowl. They lost their last 2 games for Chris's sake. This is ALL to do with their completely retarded self impression....and the fear that ulm would put a chink in their delusion. Frankly, with a healthy Browning, I have no doubt ULM wins thatgame. But alas....an ad us trying to save his job now....dont believe the bs you hear.....

A small part of me wants to believe this. Like 25% of me.

They played NIU in the bowl, Grambling in 2010 for that port city classic thing, and Miami in 2003. That game was huge.
