So I understand they passed on the Indy Bowl with the hopes of getting better...Couple of questions

- Was primary driver not to play ULM? Given the history and all
- If you were the AD, would you not have made the same decision? Hold out with the hopes of getting a better bowl? I don't know the timing process in all of this, but I would have to assume there was a very good chance that they were going to Liberty, etc?

You don't turn down a bowl invite. Period.

I think their fans are pissed because they assumed their AD had another bowl locked up. That's why they were originally okay with turning down the Indy bowl.

For some reason I'm thinking that was it. I don't know what big time bowl they thought they'd get.

i would of done same thing. Nothing to gain by playing in the Indy Bowl. They wanted to be visible somewhere else. They already recruit East Texas and North Louisiana heavily they wanted to be visible in a different area. Just didnt work out.

So no one knows the reality of the situation? I mean, it could EASILY be one of those situations where the AD was given a hint under the table "hey we've got you locked up...don't accept the Indy bowl". You'd deny the Liberty Bowl offer?

And I am being serious here. No troll. No flame. I just really want to understand the situation here.

I have no inside info...nor do I care one way or the other...but based on what I have read, they think Shreveport is a big shite-hole and didn't want to go back. They played A$M there earlier this year and didn't like the field/general area of the stadium and didn't have a good experience there.

Uh, other than missing out on a $1 Million and the extra benefits (marketing, etc).

Hell I don't even think the Indy Bowl is a bad bowl for mid tier teams. Hell Mizzou was happy for the Indy Bowl when they went last season. I mean it's not the best bowl, best city but at least you're on National TV in a Bowl game.

It's done all the time. It was done last week by a couple of schools.

I remember Nebraska vs Ole Miss here in early 2000's. That's good football

Yeah, I tried to ignore his original statement. Of course people turn down bowls for hopes of better. All the time.

I can understand that but what bowl did Tech think they were going to get??? Indy Bowl is a mid tier bowl. It's not a bottom feeder. At least I don't think of it as a Bottom feeder or lesser bowl. People make fun of the name or city but it's still a good bowl, have a long history, etc.

That's why I'm thinking it's more to do with playing ULM than the bowl.

I've heard this more than once and find it ridiculous. We are talking about La Tech! .....not some historical power house. They have been to 4 bowl games...in the last 35 years. To say they have "nothing to gain" by playing in any bowl is just stupid.

I've heard multiple times that Liberty Bowl was an option. The BIG question is...how much of a % chance did the AD have or believe he had?

Thank you. It's for the players, let them have fun, enjoy the experience, be on national tv again. Let the seniors have a chance to get a bowl win before leaving. All teams from Louisiana should support a bowl being played in our home state. Pisses me off when people knock the Indy Bowl and New Orleans Bowl.

Some states don't even get Bowl games. State of Louisiana have 3 of em. Nice.
