As long as he gets to a bowl, and doesn't get beat to badly by OU then he should be fine.

No.

If you're Baylor, Tech, or TCU you can do that and get away with it. Nobody expects much more from those programs.

Texas BMD's have far different expectations. They expect the Horns to be in the hunt for national titles virtually every year, and are tired of seeing Stoops hang 55+ on them (which he has done the last two years).

And trips to the Alamo Bowl (which is actually an improvement over the prior two seasons) are not acceptable. Especially with BOTH of their rivals facing each other in a higher-ranked bowl.

Bottom line: Brown either gets the Horns to a BCS bowl next year or the BMD's start making noise. Money talks and BS walks.

Here's what it took to get rid of R.C. Slocum:

-Wally Groff "resigns" after Robert Gates becomes the university president

-Embarrassing loss to Virginia Tech in which we held the nations leading rushing attack to less than 100 yards but still manage to lose 13-3.

-Overtime loss to Texas Tech at home in which we blew an 18-point fourth quarter lead, then MISSED the tying PAT in overtime.

-Loss to Nebraska at home in which we blew a 17-point 2nd half lead.

-Loss to Oklahoma State on the road (first loss to Oklahoma State in Big 12 play)

-Overtime loss to Missouri at home the week AFTER beating #1 Oklahoma.

I'm not sure how much of the Brandon Fails situation contributed to Slocum's firing because I think he was already a lame duck coach after the Missouri game, but having one of your players die because your medical staff didn't diagnose him properly sure doesn't help.

If it took all of that to get rid of R.C. Slocum, just imagine what it will take to get rid of Mack Brown.
