Thats a tough one. I honestly believe he is a top 5 head coach in the nation but I can think of 4 coaches off the top of my head who make more than him-Saban Urban Stoops Brown, after doing a bit of googling I also found out Lane Kiffin makes more. All of these are in the 4 million+ with Saban and Brown over 5 mill. while Les is at 3.75. Only 2 of which are justifiable in making more than Les. However with the school and its budget cuts its tough to justify upping his salary even if the money will be coming from the TAF. Football is the bell cow though and Les has brought more notiriety on and off the field than any other coach before him. Saban was respected by the media as a great mind while at LSU, but Les is constantly in the press via commercials, interviews etc at a rate much higher than Saban.
With all that said while I think there are legitimate reasons to do it (ie ensured media exposure on the field success leading to more revenue) I personally couldnt in good conscience pay a coach more than 4 million when the school itself is hurting as much as it is.

Nope. Miles has more to lose from going to Arkansas than LSU does. Call the bluff - there's no way he wants to go there, it's just a move by the agent to get money.

No. Call his bluff. If he really wants to leverage this deal, take his leverage away. No way he goes to Arkansas. He has it way too good here and would be crazy to leave.

With our economy still in the dumps, with tuition hikes, with state budgets in the red and with Miles failing to win the necessary games, absolutely NO. If Miles leaves, so be it. If LSU with its tradition, facilities, branding and other intangibles cannot get a top notch coach, then something is very wrong.
