Rub it and see if a genie comes out

You fill the bottom with fuel and light the wick. When the wick is burnt up you replace it. Same with the fuel. Dont kick it over when it's lit.

should work just like a modern white gas lantern. Fill it up, pump it up, light it, bump it, replace mantles, repeat.

No wicks, those mantels (little cloth bags)have to be burned prior to use. (at least the one on the right, can't tell on the left one) The mantels will last a long time unless damaged but they are very fragile. The gas fills the bags and burns and glows...

Yea the pumping and whatnot was what i cant tell if the whole thing is in working order.

Those suckers put out some heat... Grew up on those at our deer lease, used them for light and heat our camper before bed

Yea, mantels. I couldn't remember what they were called. Wick was close enough. It's been a long time since I used the one we have.

Mantles are easy to find. But you'll probably have to replace the gaskets in the pump. Those old gaskets were made of leather and after this much time, I'm sure the leather has dried up and disintegrated. You might be able to find new primer pumps or rubber pump gaskets to replace the originals. Yeah, they put out some heat. We usta cook on top of em. And they put out some carbon monoxide, too. They'll put you to sleep permanently in an enclosed space. Great find, though! Still got mine from the early 70's. They've hung over the boat many and many hours night fishing for crappie (excuse me...sacalait).

Thanks for the heads up.
I got a gasket pack the other day for faucets that were leaking and it had some leather ones in it.
Ill have to check it out.

007 has definitely used one of "those" before. Couldn't have explained it better myself.
