At run blocking maybe but when it's the starting lineup together they're good pass blockers.

Held the ball waaay too long.

Evans and Nicks are the only legit guys we've had there. I dont think another team in the league has the bodies to do what SF does to our oline.
First of all, you are way off on your assessment to the point of being borderline retarted. During the first half, Brees had plenty of time to throw thanks to using max pro sets. There were tight ends & backs being kept in the help block. The final 3-4 drives were brain cramps by Carmichael where we saw no backs or tight ends left in to help block & when we did, we even got a Patrick Willis on Darren Sproles matchup in blitz pickup. C'mon Willis will win that matchup 9 times out of 10. The offensive line struggled in the 2nd half with D-line stunts which is more mental then just getting beat in one on one matchups which is physical.
That's on Kromer & Carmicheal not getting them prepared properly leading up to the game. Please know what the hell you are talking about before you drag your arse across the board like a dog with worms.

How is that any different than what i said? I said they were mediocre.
Do really good Olines, ie San Fran, leave running backs, tight ends, AND an extra olineman in to block?

Yeah nobody blocks with just five all the time.

You have no clue about football because if you did you would know the 49ers use more max pro sets especially OT as a 3rd TE then any other team in the league.

Thats not what i was talking about, though. I was talking about us needing to keep a rb, te, and an extra olineman, ALL on 1 play to block their front 3 + Smith.
8 vs 4 should get the job done.

When Justin Smith was carrying our guys into Brees' lap the entire 4th quarter, that wasn't "scheme" or lack of preparation. Sproles being left in to block was a bad call, but that was one play. Those guys were destroying Brees' pocket the enitre 2nd half.

Yes, you can spread defenses out when your offensive line is healthy & not struggling against line stunts. Good coaches adjust accordingly to what the opposition is doing against them. Kromer & Carmichael didn't & the results showed on the field.
Also remember early in the season Rodgers & Brady were struggling too? Their offensive lines had injuries which resulted in both of them getting plenty of pressure. Since then both the Packers & Patriots have gotten fairly healthy on their O-Line's. Its amazing what protection can do for QB's really.

quote:Which goes back to a point i made earlier in the thread. We couldnt block those same 49er players last year with a 100% healthy oline + Nicks + Sean Payton on the sideline. Our oline seems to hold up well vs. the rest of the league. I dont think its a stretch to say we just can't block that front 7.

And the Saints have also been using a T Eligible since Strief's rookie year.

We were playing or 4th and 5th RTs. Will Robinson who we found on the street had played in a 1 NFL game before today.

This post is so full of fail. Don't get mad at me because you honestly don't know shite about the X's & O's of the game yet you post like you do.
They are able to pound the ball because they go "Jumbo" a lot with a 3rd tackle as TE. They also get a lot big plays off of play action out these formations because defenses sell out to stop the run against it. This was & still is a staple Stanford's offense which was installed in their playbook by Harbaugh.
You how I know you don't know shite about football? If you didn't see the array of defensive line stunts & blitzes the 49ers used then you are blind & dumb. That's the definition of being out schemed.

Believe we got "out schemed" if you want. They beat the shite out of us.

They blocked them fine in the 1st half using max pro & chipping with TE's & backs. Call it what you want but I call it doing what it takes to win. Btw, this has become something that Payton has used numerous times against defenses with good pass rushers. Remember the demolition of the Giants last year? The offense killed the Giants D-Line with max pro as well as chips from the backs & TE's.

Its not what I believe, its what I know unlike you. I'm not throwing shite out there hoping it sticks like you are doing here. I like you to tell me where the frick have I been wrong in my assessment of today's game. I'll sit here & wait.

quote:Agreed. More and more teams around the league are using the extra TE and/or going "tackle eligible," but not out of the desperation that we used it today in the 2nd half. We had no choice. I know we tend to use it A LOT in our PA package to give Brees extra time on those long developing routes down the field.

However, I honestly don't know what your argument with me is, in this thread. Are you arguing that the oline actually had a solid game? You quoted a post of mine saying the oline is mediocre and that having a HOF QB like Brees helps make them better. Are you disagreeing with that? Then it turned into an Xs and Os argument about whether or not I know what stunts and blitzes are...
After what we've seen from the Saints vs. this version of the 49ers, I don't see how its controversial to say our oline can't block them.

You are an idiot. You just dont get it do you.
The fact is, San Fran beat us. They were better on offense, much better on defense and just beat us up. You blame Drew because you don't know anyone else's name on the team. Without Drew. We would have lost by 24, maybe 30+.
pleas quit posting.

Their coaching staff made adjustments at halftime while our offensive coaches panicked & got away from their game plan.
In the first half, the 49ers hardly did any line stunts because Saints stuck to the ground game. When you stunt against times that power run, you leave yourself vulnerable to gashing runs. Once our offense abandoned the run, it was over. They stunted up front at will & we had no answer for it because the coaching staff left no one in to help block nor did they chip block before releasing for their routes.
& yes teams do use max pro when they have injuries or struggles on the offensive line. They use it get another big body in game to help keep a clean pocket. Teams also use it when they want to enforce a physical run game. The offense should have never gotten away from it because you can be more creative out of it then you think. That's why I say the Saints were outcoached more then they were "out manned".
