Choosing between a black lab and a catahoula. Looking for a inside outside dog also a guard dog for when I'm not home. Pretty much gonna be the wifes dog.

Lab.

Or if you want something that will defend her to the death, get a BMC.

No idea on cat, but labs inside are a disaster.

Black Mouth Cur. Mine mostly lives inside with me but they are so sensitive they make really great womens dogs. They'are ALWAYS on guard. Wherever you are. But easily controlled. But scary as frick when they catch someone too close. The thing about them dying for you... I completely believe that based on mine.

Just a really intelligent all around useful dog and great pet.

Best dog I ever had was a Catahoula. She was a "failed" hog dog that was absolutely as protective of wife and kids as any dog I ever had.
Tuffy never chewed up anything we had and was as pleasant a dog as you would ever find. Just don't make any threatening moves!

A lab inside is a pain. They are always hyper and always find the one thing in the house you really didn't want them to destroy

I have a catahoula as an inside dog. He stays in a pen during the day. He suffers from separartion anxiety real bad. He can't be trusted alone in the house. He doesn't shed that bad, good tempered with the boys, loves my wife. The ups guy pulls up in the yard and honks so my wife will come to him. He's terrified of Tank after he chased the guy back into the truck. Very protective animal when I'm not there. When I get home he becomes a different dog.
