re: Russell Shepard as an eventual replacement for Sproles?

White plays for Tech doesn't he? He's more of a work horse/power back. Hart doesn't have the speed after his injury and was never that shifty. Don't know anything about Taylor. Don't think he's had any carries.
D'Anthony Thomas would be ideal, but he'll be a really high pick. The kid from Clemson would be good too, but he's probably a 3rd rounder. Not sure how CJ Spiller's career will effect him. I guess it's possible to make Spiller a target once Sproles leaves.

I fear for Shepard's safety in the NFL if he plays. Seriously. He hasn't gotten hurt in college, but he might break every bone in his body in the league.

Russell Shepard is not built to be an NFL runner--too light of frame.
He is better suited to be a coach. He is very articulate, knows the game, and would be a great motivator and recruiter.
We might even see him as a sports analyst.

Cannot wait to see Shep in black n gold. He can return kicks, return punts, block kicks, play running back, WR opposite Devery. And he can run our wildcat. I can already see the goal line, wildcat, Shep to Jimmy Graham jump pass.

LINK watch the video, pretend he's wearing a Rutger's jersey and then tell me he doesn't have speed, elusiveness and athleticism.
now go watch highlights of reggie and sproles and tell me he's in their league

Those guys are going to be high draft picks though.
So you're saying we won't have a shot cause they'll be taken high and we'll be drafting low? We must be playin in the Dome in February. I like what you did there

So given Shep's stats all four years, would you be saying the same thing if he went somewhere other than LSU? Probably not.
The answer is no.
The answer is no.

Sad to say, but Shepard may get a shot at the NFL but will be overshadowed by multitudes of many other talents and will be just another dude playing football. His best bet will be to apply with the LSU Football Team Athletic Dept and work his way up to recruiter or scout.

Shep is the most underutilized player in college football. He is smart, fast and would be a great player coach...however he plays small! 6-0 200 and he plays like he is 5-9 175. I think with the right coach he could blow up! Coach miles underdevelops players. He can't coach them up. Odell Jr is prime example #2. Great speed and plays like a bitch! Soft hands, scared to play. A coach like Payton could turn this kid into a beast but it would have to be at WR

Of the current crop of college players, I would prefer Denard Walker! I think SP could do wonders with his skill set.
