Football TV Color Commentators - The Best Technically

...not considering tone, likability, delivery or whether or not they favor the opponent, etc.
Strictly notice the ability to identify blocking schemes, receiver routes, penalty and offender (well before the ref announces) and blitz/pass rush & coverages plus adjustments - these stand out as the ones that can quickly identify and relay the technical aspects of a play the best:
1) Danielson
2) Collinsworth
3) Blackledge
4) Sims
5) Herbstreit
Danielson and Collinsworth in particular are so quick (even with spotters and earbud feed) on the call and rarely miss - Danielson's preparation is unparalleled.
Also, IMO, best play by play on basis of technical/accuracy (i.e. not tone, bias, likability, etc):
1) Brad Nessler
2) Al Michaels
3) Gus Johnson
4) Dick Stockton
5) Joe Buck

Mike Mayock is top 3 for sure

3 games this year, the guy can stare at a replay review over and over and over again...and call it wrong, over and over and over again.
"Uhhh, I don't know Verne...I think the Bama player was down before that fumble."
He's either blind or just too biased. Strictly speaking, ability to identify...get wrong...unparalleled.

Collinsworth is hands down #1

I really like when Bama has the ESPN night game for Blackledge and Nessler.
No Uncle Verne in your top 5?
I still cannot get over "Orlando McCain".

Cant stand him
Gary is the best by a lot IMO. He really knows his shite.

Blackledge and Nessler are the best now - easy on the ears and pretty accurate too.
Stylistically Verne is decent/unique and the Aggies thought it was cool that he was calling their game last Sat, sort of a nostalgic thing. They just haven't had years of him calling their games yet. He just misses too much for a play-by-play on a lead team. I like him for The Masters though.

Remove Simms for Mayock and your color commentators list would be perfect. I disagree with your play by play announcers list though. Stockton and Buck are horrible and Johnson is pretty flawed technically.
My top 5 play by play announcers
1. Al Michaels
2. Brent Musburger
3. Jim Nantz
4. Brad Nessler
5. Tom Hammond

Danielson's biggest problem is that her prepares a lot and then tries to fit what he sees to his preparation, rather than describing what is actually happening.

They will come to hate him in due time.

What's with all the hate for Buck? I think he and Aikman are pretty dang good

I'm not sure how Danielson can make this list. I can't stand him. I cringe when LSU plays at 2:30.

Gus Johnson sucks. He screams as if every play is a "game-changer".

Analysts:
1) Collinsworth
2) Blackledge
3) Sims
4) Danielson
5) Mayock
Play-By-Play
1) Michaels
2) Nessler
3) Nantz
4) Buck

If Gus Johnson is calling the game, I hit the mute button.
