Do you think Kirby Smart would take the Auburn job if offered?

This is just a hypothetical so don't go apeshit. Was thinking KS will be a HC one day soon and what if this job was offered?
I think it would depend on the money Tbh. Hard to turn down a few mil a year if that is offered.

I think he would take it in a second and he would be crazy not to take the job. I just don't see Auburn offering that job to a career assistant. Especially a career assistant coming from Alabama.

For one nobody knows if he was promised the Bama job after CNS leaves. Also, he might want to get out the SEC and make a name for himself. A lot of variables but I think he would take it.

Some are saying he's in the running.

That is why I brought it here for opinion. Some places are saying he is the number 1 guy right now.

I have no knowledge, but what I'm reading, in order.
1. Jimbo
2. Malzahn
3. Smart

Hes not #1 right now and I think he'd jump at the opportunity in a heart beat. And then prove hes not capable of it and be back to a coordinator in 3 years.

Smart has no HC experience. I would look elsewhere.

I'm actually not sure he would, not that he's that close to the top of Auburn's list anyway IMO. I'm not sure he'd want to go take on such a rebuilding job and have to compete against his old boss Saban in-state. I believe he has his sights set on Georgia or Alabama. Not saying he won't go be the HC somewhere before that, but personally I think it'll be a smaller type school where it might be easier to win a few more games while he waits for the call "home" to Athens or Tuscaloosa.

He would jump at the chance... He was born in Montgomery, but grew up in Georgia and attended UGA... Mark R. is not going anywhere soon.

Absolutely he would, I hope he doesn't get offered though.

we'd probably have to strike out a lot to settle for Smart... but some coordinators take over major programs and have success -- Mark Richt is a good example... Will Muschamp is another.

This is what I think. The UGA job would be better than staying at Bama and trying to live up to Saban, IMO
There is no reason Auburn should consider hiring Smart unless they want to prove they are the ultimate little brother. A Smart hire would not be the same as Dye who went to school at UGA and coached other places than just with Bear Bryant at Alabama

since jimbo and smart are apparently on the list, it seems like they are at least looking at some saban lineage.
this would possibly interupt the bama succession plan, which i would think would make the auburn fanbase giddy. i dont know that bama would hire smart when saban leaves, but i would think there would be a decent chance they do.
this also puts an immediate dent in bama's team, both coaching and recruiting. saban would probably promote lance thompson or rehire sunseri as DC. neither are as talented as smart. sure it's sabans D, but smart plays a large roll. if he lost smart, saban would have to spend more time watching the d, which interupts some of the 'process'. to me that has to be appealing to auburn as well.
Smart is a hell of a recruiter, especially in georgia. thats a huge plus for auburn. it also removes on of sabans best recruiters, and their georgia recruiter.
lastly, despite getting off to rocky starts, i think the saban protoge's are turning the corner at UF and FSU. Dooley was always a dud. he was always in over his head. muschamp and jimbo are x and o guys. dooley was a wr coach and saban mimicker. smart is an x & o guy and should do well overseeing a program. even saban struggled early on at each of his stops.
just my 2 cents. i see a lot of positives for auburn if they hire smart. jimbo still refuses to relinquish playcalling, and i think thats the main thing holding his teams back. never been a good playcaller. comes in spurts and the bad spurts cost you. it's easier for a defensive coach to dial back their involvement, then it is for an offensive coach imo.
on the other hand, if smart has any inkling that he would get the bama job and had some idea of the timeline, then i could see him turning down an auburn offer. or possibly if he thought he could get the uga job.

He'll have to sort out what his current boss is going to do - if Saban doesn't pursue, at least seriously, the Texas job (or his final shot at the NFL), then Smart will have to leave to get a head coaching job in the next 5 to 6 years. I think Bama represents his dream job and it is hard to go from Bama to Auburn (or vice versa).

Muschamp held out a few years ago and passed on it. Who knows if Smart would do the same. I would assume he would have some reservations given the power structure and fan expectations at Auburn right now. If he thinks he can overcome those, I suppose he would. I don't know if Auburn would give him autonomy or let him run the program the way he would want to run it, especially as a first year head coach.
He's making enough to get by right now, and I'm sure he knows that if he makes the right decisions, he has the potential to make a ton more in the coming years, be it at Auburn or somewhere else.
