I don't know the answer to this, but is he involved in recruiting at Bama? If so, and he has his own ties in the state of Alabama for recruiting, he should take it if they offer it.
He should be able to recruit Alabama/Florida/Georgia fairly easily if he has that as part of his skill set.

AU has no shot at Jimbo. Malzahn would be a great hire. Smart has excellent recruiting roots in AL and GA but the Alabama thing seems so weird.

I have no sources, so I don't know if Jimbo is a real choice or not. But those are the three names being talked about the most.

I don't think Smart would touch the job with a 10 foot pole.

Why? Because he'd want to run the program his way, not the fambuleh way.

Unless a lot of people get told to frick off, there's a lotta guys who won't take it.

I hope so.

Those two programs need another reason to hate each other

He can pick his spot. Auburn is unlikely - too much to rebuild and too much a rival of U of Gump. Arky is a better position for him (recruiting/talent wise).

I think he stays another year w/ little nicky, and then jumps.

i dont know that bama would hire smart when saban leaves, but i would think there would be a decent chance they do.

No way Smart gets the Bama job after Saban. They might be telling him that to keep him but it isn't going to happen.

There is no chance Smart goes to AU. Not a hated rival.

Is this like Will Muschamp won't go to Florida? You know, UGA alum, hated rival and such.

If Smart were the coach at AU, there would be a new level of conspiracy theorist everytime AU lost a game.

In a heartbeat, a head coaching job in the SEC, even at Auburn is a fairly sought after job.

That's my thinking...Smart would be Dumb to pass on Auburn (pun intented, of course). Turn down a top tier gig in the SEC? No way! But what is ghe buyout for Shitty Chitty's contract?
