I guarantee that deep down, in non-public moments, the AD's of the schools that play in lower-level bowls would just as soon have their teams not play. The exposure is great, but bowls can be a financial nightmare for schools with borderline athletic budgets to begin with. By the time you travel, stay in a hotel, pay for meals for everyone, house a band and feed them, etc., the bowls are a money drain.
I recall numbers showing that LSU basically broke even in the couple of Chick Fil-A bowls in which they played and maybe made a nominal amount for playing in the Cotton Bowl.
A MAC team playing in a bowl game in a remote location will lose money.

No. No they would not rather that happen.

This is stupid stupid stupid.
What about the players??
The ADs and schools make money year round on these players, and if they have to take a bit of a hit to let the players and fans enjoy the bowl experience, I say fricking deal with it.
The players of programs that will never sniff a BCS title, or conference title for that matter, get to play in a postseason game with pride and bragging rights, and even a trophy on the line.
Anything that happens to take away from that would be ruining everything that college football is.
LSU fans have forgotten what it was like to be thrilled to be ranked and in bowl contention at all.
Even after a down year, you can celebrate your team and players, and use the game to build hope and momentum for the next season.
Anyone who can't see that just isn't a college football fan. Plain and simple.

quote:you recall incorrectly. the SEC shares bowl revenues, so we get a piece of the pie from the 2 BCS bowl games the SEC plays in every year, even when we play in the Peach bowl. Last year, the number was over 14 million. a trip to Atlanta for the team doesn't cost nearly that much
