Anybody else liking this show? I find these old money"robber baron" type American fascinating. John D Rockefeller was probably the greatest American businessmen off all time imho.

Hell Yea Trey..... ....I love learning about the old guard Americans. A lot of them are still influencing world events from beyond the grave. Lord Tennyson's poem "Locskley Hall".

Yes, I greatly admire these men that truly took advantage of the free market system and created mass frickin wealth for themselves. I'm fascinated by this show and this is what "The History Channel" should be doing. Have a seperate reality show channel for those kinda shows and have a PURE History Channel show like this for kind of product. I'm glad y'all are liking this too.......

I liked it a lot. I thought it was very interesting that vanderbilt new that oil would take off and picked rockefeller to give the discount for transporting the oil, giving him an unfair advantage. The show said he was struggling and was probably going broke. I wonder if vanderbilt picked someone else would we even know rockefeller's name.

It's amazing on how most came from nothing, were highly competitive and succeeded specualtion and taking risks - great series. Another great series starts this week on History.

I agree. What these guys did made living conditions in this country way better and really what it is today. I would also say they are indirectly responsible for growth in other nations too becuase of their acheivments. All of this happened becuase of where they lived and having a capitalist system.

It's better than History but here are some of the offerings this week:
Countdown To Apocalypse: Countdown to 12/21/12: Maya Messengers
Life After People: Wrath of God
Brad Meltzer's Decoded
Ancient Aliens: Aliens and Ancient Engineers
Ancient Aliens: Alien Tech
Ancient Aliens: The Mayan Conspiracy
MysteryQuest: Devil's Triangle
On the other hand is Vietnam in HD which is excellent. But H2 has their share of utter crap.

It shows what truly made America great. The opportunity for a man to think and be innovative so that the country can prosper. The lack of influence by the government allowed this. On the other hand you get the bad.Things like petty rivalries kept some peoples lives in ruins and increasing work hours and lowering wages so that a man that is already richer than the rest of us combined can stay profitable.

Henry Frick was a boss.

Fun series, though I do think they bought into Carengie's BS about Frick. Carnegie needed Frick to be the hardass, particularly in regards to the Homestead strike. Carnegie blamed Frick for everything when really, he was willfully out of the loop, even leaving the country during the strike to give Frick a free hand to do what he does.
Frick was the only one who had no illusions about what he really was. He is, by far, the most fascinating of all of the Captains of Industry. He built an empire on blood, but he never lied to himself about it. Carengie was full of crap, which is why he tried to buy his way into heaven.

Agree. Also i never heard of jake scott. They portray him as a decent man. Sad how he died.

I love the stories of these men and their accomplishments, but the format of the program gets a little old at times. I get sick of watching silent footage of solemn actors smoking cigars and sipping whisky, walking briskly through steam engine smoke, etc. while the narrator tells the story.

Carnegie was full of crap and was a total coward. Let Frick do the things he was too chicken to do to advance the company. What a load of crap that he was a caring owner. He went to Scotland to bury his head in the sand. He was the one guy in this series that I had very little respect for.

I enjoyed them a great deal. My 78 year old mom watched and enjoyed them too. Talked with her about them the day after watching.
Missed the last one but I'll catch a replay.
Titantic: Blood & Steel
Did anybody else watch this miniseries on Encore?
I really enjoyed it but also missed the ending. Going to try to get the rest of it in on this on demand outlet.
