Sideways isn't as depressing and it has funnier moments. Both are excellent movies.

Sideways was painful. I turned it off and sent it back to netflix less than halfway through.

Both solid.

but IMO ScarJo>ViMad and Murray>both those dudes.

music is better in Lost too.

Sideways. It's one of my top 5 movies of the 2000s.

I'm in my 30s and I didn't relate to either of those movies as much as I think I would've if I was 40+. If you have traveled a lot - watch Lost in Translation. Otherwise - Sideways.

It depends. Have you ever had a moment in your life that you felt wildly out of place in a current situation? Stranger in a Strange Land? If you have been there, I would say Lost in Translation. It's probably in my Top 10. That being said, the first time I saw it, I hated it since I couldn't identify with it. Second time I was living among insanity, and it helped me cope with the situation.

If not, I'd go with Sideways.

The correct answer. Lost in Translation is meant to be directly identifiable, but Sideways isn't so much. If you can't identify with LiT, then you probably won't like it; if you can, you'll love it.

Sideways.

Lost in Translation is a bit too pretentious, even for me.

Well that would be an exercise in mental toughness and stamina.

Both are good, yet Sideways ranks in my top 25 of all time.
